Correct. I was being facetious. I don't give them that much creative intellectual credit

It isn't a wash. Not even close. HOA dues are high here too, bit so is my income tax.
I kept more of my money when I lived in Florida. That's not debatable.

Thiel says it is too expensive to move from Silicon Valley to Miami...wow..I think he is just making excuses for not wanting his company subject to retaliation if he criticizes DeS

Peter Thiel Says Moving to Florida from Silicon Valley Is Too Expensive (msn.com)

Billionaire tech investor Peter Thiel said he’s reluctant to move his operations to Florida from Silicon Valley because housing prices have soared.

“If you buy a house in Miami today versus just three years ago, you’re paying four times as much for a monthly mortgage payment,” Thiel said on the podcast Honestly with Bari Weiss.
    ..................................................................
Thiel, a one-time adviser to former President Donald Trump, also urged Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to focus more on economic inequality and less on issues like gender identity and race.

“That kind of economic cost is probably not enough to offset all the wokeness in the world or even the taxes,” he said.

    Median home price:

    Cupertino, CA: $2.5 million
    Palo Alto, CA: $3 million
    Miami, FL: $560k

Yeah, it’s definitely those high Miami housing prices preventing a move.

I am shocked that things are that cheap in Cupertino & PA....I'da guessed double that. Fort Collins median > Miami....I guess some folks still value freedom, great education & beauty.

Will DeS have one of his agencies cancel the race?

Sports world reacts to racing legend’s transgender news (msn.com)

Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton took a tough stand on Florida’s anti-LGBTQ laws Thursday, comparing the state to what he’s seen from the oppressive Saudi regime.

“It’s not good at all,” Hamilton said (via the AP) in an appearance prior to this weekend’s F1 race in Miami. “I stand by those within the community here. I hope they continue to stand firm and push back. I’ll have the rainbow on my helmet. It’s no different to when we were in Saudi.”

Will probably send his personal police squad to arrest Hamilton for obscenity for his rainbow helmet and for being a foreign national in Florida.

Unsatisfied with only resurrecting the Alien and Sedition Acts, Florida now brings back the Chinese Exclusion Act. Of course, extraterritorial abortion restrictions echo parts of the Fugitive Slave Act, but Florida, at one time refuge for escapees, hasn’t gotten there yet.

TALLAHASSEE — Floridians who are Black, gay, transgender or immigrants have accused Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Legislature of targeting them in policies and bills this year.

Now, many Chinese Americans say they feel discriminated against by a DeSantis priority bill that would prohibit people “domiciled” in China from owning property or land in the state if they’re not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

SB 264 would limit land purchases near military bases and critical infrastructure from residents of a handful of foreign adversaries, including Russia, Iran, North Korea and Venezuela.

Only Chinese citizens would be prohibited from owning land — or homes — anywhere in the state.

I am assuming that none of Trump’s properties are near “critical infrastructure”, given their heavy Russian ownership. Of course, doesn’t prevent Russia from owning the owner of the land. But it looks like it only applies to new purchases.

Sounds like Hamilton is subverting the will of the Florida electorate. Guess he needs to go to jail. No room in the free state of Florida to blasphemy DeSantis law.

Budget piece. Record $117 billion budget, 600% increase in executive budget.

Can’t cut and paste because so many paragraphs, but money for migrant flights, legal fees for Covid litigation so the “Governor can speak his mind” and a lot of money for remaking education with conservative ideals, including recruiting ideologically aligned faculty for New College and the Hamilton Institute for American ideals (something like that), which will undoubtedly be based on false history.

    But this was most noteworthy.

Republican leaders have justified the spending by pointing to the state’s booming sales tax revenues. They are required to pass a balanced budget, so if the revenue is there, they can spend it. The state has also been helped by billions of federal dollars from the Biden administration.

“People say we’re spending money left and right,” said Sen. Debbie Mayfield, R-Melbourne. “But our economy is growing and we have the money to spend, and we’re spending it all in the right places.”

Glad the Times mentioned the federal dollars, which they try to avoid admitting. Found this number for the prior year.

Collectively, 33.6% of Florida’s budget for the 2022 fiscal year came from federal funds. The state also has a reported $20 billion surplus, according to state officials.

We have all this excess money but we can't actually help people by expanding Medicaid.

Also, I thought conservatives were supposed to be about lowering taxes. Every time I go to Florida (which is a lot) it's insane how much I pay in hotel and rental car taxes. If they have all this excess tax revenue, why not consider tax cuts?

These idiots have NO idea what the legal definition of pornography is. Those examples don't even constitute child erotica, which is legal in Florida. This is pathetic. They likely would have labeled the Sears catalog porn.
