As long as they’re “woke”, right?

They're not tough questions at all for me. I'm against the death penalty. We know that innocent people have been convicted and sentenced to death. Given that, I think it's just gross that DeSantis is making it easier to execute people.

When a Republican says “That Democrats want open borders shows that they don’t care at all about the lives of innocent Americans”, it isn’t tough for them either. However, I am suggesting that it should be. Note the logic of the hypothetical Republican is the same as yours: some number of immigrants will commit murder, so increasing the number of immigrants increases the number of murders. Yet, I don’t accept this conclusion because I recognize this decision as having multiple elements.

Note that I also find DeSantis’ action gross, but it doesn’t rise to proof that he is a psycho that places zero value on innocent life. Let me try an alternative formation that I believe is justified by the circumstances: “DeSantis cares more about making sure that someone found guilty of a heinous crime is executed than he does about the chances of executing an innocent person.”

Can we agree on that one?

I think it’s a disturbed mind that wants to execute another person at all. Gov. DeSaster is all about stoking anger and fear. He’s that drunk cowboy in those 1950’s westerns that says “Are we just gonna let a murderer get away with it? I say we drag him outta that jail and string him up!” just before the Marshall brings in the real murderer.

We need leadership that inspires hope, not fear. A leader that says things are going to get better, not worse. A leader that points to the shining city on the hill, not the bubbling cess pool. DeSantis is none of those things, nor is any other republican running for the presidency. That’s why independents are moving toward Democrats.
Youth voters and independents boosted Democrats this midterm, exit polls show

I personally do not agree with the death penalty either, but executions have been a part of so many different kinds of human societies that I’m not sure “disturbed” is quite right either.

That said, I have no interest in DeSantis wielding the state’s power to wage his culture war, and him literally being in charge of peoples’ lives is scary.

DeS has repeatedly shown by his own actions that his primary and guiding concern is election to higher office. His refusal to accept enhance medicaid benefits on behalf of florida residents, 6 week abortion ban, and covid quackery is confirmation that he cares more for primary votes than the health and welfare of florida citizens. He has removed all doubt

His behavior is certainly consistent with this motivation. That said, ambition shouldn’t be automatically disqualifying. Even Abraham Lincoln appears to have desired the highest office, after all. Critical to our judgement should be evaluating what one willing to do to achieve that office, and on this count I find DeSantis’ cap to be adorned with a bundle of unworthy feathers.

I’ve honestly grown to see this as a positive now that Florida is solidly red. Attract huge numbers of deplorables to a single state where their impact on national politics will be minimized. Everyone wins.

Freedom? You haven’t noticed how much of his actions are based on “you can’t do this ..”?

DeSantis: “You don't need a permission slip from the government to exercise constitutional rights.”

Disney: “That’s great, because we wanted to express that we don’t support your new law …because it is so amazing that no other law will ever match up. All hail the benevolent Governor DeSantis! —Sincerely, New Disney Management”

-You don't need a permission slip from the government to exercise constitutional rights.

You do if your plan is to abuse those rights.

-Children shouldn't be exposed to sexual content or activity.

Children shouldn’t be exposed to MAGA policy.

    -Public education…

Should be placed in the hands of those trained in the profession, and not those who believe they know better simply because they attended school.
