We went and saw the statue this summer. Nobody wanted to do the statue because the stone was an inferior quality and they were afraid they woudl crak it with too much stress. the sculptors had to be engineers too in order to make the sculptures work.

this reminds me of the pope (Pious I think) that had people with hammers run around the vatican and knock the penises off of all the statues and cover genital areas with fig leaves in the paintings. supposedly they have entire rooms filled with marble penises from all the statues somewhere and there is a push to restore them.

“I think we need to make sure that we are raising the standard.
