he’s doing a pretty good job so far. He’s listening to the locals, which is important, and he knows who pays the bills. I don’t support him on everything, but good governance always involves compromise

Agreed. Youngkin has been effective and not offensive thus far. He is what I would love the GOP to return to.

No. It's not an on your point answer. Okay, so we have two different opinions. That's perfectly fine. We can agree to disagree. I'm obviously not going to change your opinion, and you're obviously not going to change mine.

Fair enough. Last point I will make: the governor's order specifically states that he can suspend due to "ignorance." So hopefully every law enforcement official that has ever failed to uphold every single arcane and ridiculous law, even if by ignorance, will face such a sanction as well. I won't be holding my breath because this wasn't really an order in good faith.

What other law was he failing to enforce, specifically?

me too. I hope he can stay the course. So far he’s done a good job governing from the middle IMO. Even when I disagree with him, he seems reasonable and I really think he’s been effective keeping those under him under control

Florida Sheriff Orders Deputies And Staff Not To Wear Face Masks

‘We are not the mask police:’ Brevard sheriff says deputies will not enforce school mandates

Not a one of which is a Florida Sheriff refusing to enforce something a county sheriff is legally charged with enforcing (The closest we seem to be able to find is a school board policy and a city ordinance. It’s not neglect of official duties to not do something that it isn’t your job to do in the first place.)

    Thanks for proving my point.

It's true. But I don't think Democrats ever really claimed to be small gov. Now the GOP might be bigger gov than the Dems.

There are definitely some that seem to stray. Can’t argue with that

The 15-week abortion ban is unconstitutional under the Florida Constitution, at least until the Republicans on the Florida Supreme Court rewrite our state's right to privacy law. Andrew Warren is in the right here. The wannabe authoritarian governor is in the wrong.

Actually, his job as an elected prosecutor is to exercise his prosecutorial discretion consistently with the wishes of his constituents. That includes not enforcing unconstitutional laws.

If he wanted part of his job to be deciding whether laws are constitutional or not, he should have run for circuit judge instead of state attorney.

Of course that would come with the downside of being subject to review instead of just becoming a law unto himself and deciding that validly passed Florida laws don’t apply in Hillsborough County if he happens not to like them.

What an asinine statement. He's a prosecutor. This is a criminal law. It's literally his job to determine whether and how to enforce it. The law's constitutionality is directly relevant to that determination.

If the Florida Legislature passed a law saying that the state could give you life in prison for owning or possessing a firearm, something tells me you wouldn't be trying to claim it wasn't the state attorney's job to not prosecute you using a law that is clearly unconstitutional.

Moreover, the remedy here is for the people of Hillsborough County to vote him out if they don't like how he's using his prosecutorial discretion, not for Governor DeOrban to remove the person they elected for doing the job they elected him to do.

Just another hypocritical move, getting bolder and bolder with his overreach, but his supporters continue to lap it up and find ways to justify it.

Replacing a twice elected official and replacing him with a crony and member of the Federalist society, imagine that. Easy peasy.
