Much like we wouldn't have DT without Hillary, pehaps we wouldn't have had DeS if the dems would get their crap together and provide better options

Good luck having that pass any recognizable known test under the First Amendment. More taxpayer money down the drain to defend DeSantis’ right wing cancel culture triggered litigation.

DeSantis's hope is to change the First Amendment tests so that he consolidates more power in himself and his cronies.

Make it harder for undocumented foreigners to work and get in state tuition. sounds like a brilliant plan to kneecap an already undersupplied workforce

Did I miss this? Sad when Rick Scott is the reasonable voice in the room

DeSantis Wants New Restrictions on Undocumented Students and Workers (businessinsider.com)

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida rolled out a series of proposals on Thursday that would impose major restrictions on career and educational opportunities for undocumented immigrants in the state.

The governor wants state legislators to repeal a state law that allows children of undocumented immigrants to get in-state college tuition rates. The sweeping changes would also ban localities from issuing IDs to undocumented immigrants, increase criminal penalties for human smuggling, and require all employers to use e-verify — a system that checks prospective workers' residency status.

Under the proposal, hospitals would be required to collect data on how much they spend providing healthcare to undocumented immigrants.
    ..................................
The law on college tuition the governor wants to repeal was originally introduced by his lieutenant governor, Jeanette Nuñez, when she was a state lawmaker representing Miami. Sen. Rick Scott, DeSantis' predecessor in the governor's mansion, signed the bill into law. Scott told reporters on Thursday that it would be "unfair" to take away in-state tution for undocumented immigrants.

DeSantis is inhumane, and, yet, he gets substantial support from millions of people.

The support is from those who are blind, deceived, or just ignorant to what he is actually doing as opposed to the platitudes that he uses to deliver his messages.

How can a guy so popular among many disparate groups of people be so wrong and evil?
Why is it that only a select few don’t like Desantis?

Because he uses platitudes to gain cheer and adulation with a base desperate for a winner. But his policies are all like an onion - when you strip away the layers, the results are far different than his labels.

The results from his policies are instantaneous I guess. It seems like the hate has ramped up coincidentally with his popularity.

He offers nothing of actual value that will make the lives of his constituents better. He’s all about igniting useless culture wars and “wokeism” that leads his supporters to falsely believe he’s fighting for them when in actuality he’s doing irreparable damage that is greatly hurting everyone’s lives in the state.

But that’s all opinion on your part. I am happy he pushes back on the woke stuff. It’s not major for me, but I’m glad educators will think twice before espousing their crap on my kids.

I am no fan of DeSantis, but I believe this view of his supporters is problematic. If you assume millions can be so easily deceived, what makes you sure that you are any different? The weird reality is that a lot of them view the supporters of democrats the exact same way.

The fact is that everyone has reasons for their beliefs. We often don’t love the reasons others have for alternate beliefs, but neither do they love ours. And often we later come to not even love our own reasons for beliefs. DeSantis is definitely flouting the constitution with many of his actions, but it’s hard to find a recent leader that hasn’t. When we want to, we all have the ability to turn a blind eye to some aspects of a situation in order to enjoy the others. Considering the many different values we all have, the idea that there isn’t a single aspect in which DeSantis could be justly considered the superior choice to some simply isn’t reasonable.

That said, I am certainly not counseling you to stop highlighting DeSantis’ faults, but I do think that if we want to make headway with his supporters, we need a better model of who these supporters are.

As politely as I can say this, I believe you are either playing dumb, or you don’t have children in the govt schools, or you’re content to have teachers pushing woke topics onto your children.
It is happening as sure as the news media is 90% liberal leaning. I bet you’ll refute that too.

My ability to read and see. When he calls our State the Free State if Florida, then unleashes an unprecedented retaliation against a company for having the temerity to exercise a basic right of free speech.

When he retaliates against professors who had the nerve to testify against his Covid policies.

When he retaliates against a duly elected attorney general because the elected official spoke against DeSantis’ views.

When he threatened an entire educational tool that betters our students, AP, because its owner (College Board) did nit end the knee.

When is wholly ambiguous censorship policies results on bare book shelves and empty libraries because of teachers’ fears of punishment and retribution.

When he fires a School Board administrator who doesn’t bend the knee.

When he took over and replaced an entire Florida High School Athletic Conference when that conference refused to demand its athletes submit their HPPA protected menstrual cycles

When he threatens private companies from training their employees on DEI, even though such companies’ risk management studies show such training mitigates against lawsuits and judgments.

When he passes an anti-riot bill to stop the adverse political party from assembling and protesting, then refusing to allow his own legislation to prosecute his own side’s behavior

When he tries to censor social media adverse to his views

When he proposes laws aimed at curbing Constitutional free speech which he doesn’t approve

When he shouts how he will staff government positions with people of merit, then routinely hand out posts to his cronies

When he hands the State’s educational system to a crackpot who is notorious for leading christian white fundamentalistThink tanks whose sole goal is to propagate their agenda in every American.

When he hands the keys to the State’s health to a guy who refuses to follow science.

When he tells us that he doesn’t want the State interfering with the right to parent our children, then passing legislation which punishes parents for taking their kids to a G-rated drag show, because he disapproves.

When he creates his own gerrymandering maps that even his ConGress told him was it a good look (and holding the budget hostage unless they agreed with him)

When he installed his own political hacks that completely changed the mission and purpose of New College

When he used public funds to kidnap people in Texas and send them to Massachusetts

When he denigrated young school kids because they wore masks

When he threatened another State with “Cold War” if they elected a governor he didn’t approve of (Stacey Abrams)

    And sadly, so much more.
