So you think ignorance of the law by law enforcement is a good enough excuse to keep them in their jobs?

And they wouldn't be "arraigned" without the Prosecutor doing it.

Him trying to somehow degrade the person by labeling him, woke in this case, is a disturbing charecteristic that brings out the worst in people. We need a healer, not an inflamer.

There needs to be zero discussion about SEXUAL orientation at that young age. The vast, vast majority of parents agree on this issue. It's just common sense.

Depends on their training. I'm not a FL cop so I couldn't tell you if it's in the training. Maybe their training needs to be updated. Again, I'm betting they are not choosing to enforce a law or not.

@GatorBen, you're an attorney, right? Where does the flowdown of laws from the State to individual LEOs come from?

It’s like he sits around wondering what he can do next to inflame his base, who lap it up. He’d make an awful president by further widening the gap which separates so many of us.

Well then we should definitely be suspending the people in charge of the training of officers, right? That would be the Sheriffs and police chiefs, ultimately. So you good with suspending every one of them in the state that hasn't taught their officers about the law?

Asked @GatorBen that exact question. And if they're making the choice to not flow that down, then yes there should be discipline for it.

So does that mean you don't think law enforcement officers should be expected to know the law that they are enforcing? Since you will only discipline those that specifically are aware of that law and choose not to train, not those unaware of that law that they are supposed to enforce?

Groomers like it when young kids don't know anything about sex. Makes it much easier to victimize the kids.

Total indefensible abuse of power. Absolutely absurd. He is such a budding despot. I certainly hope he ultimately gets what he deserves

You keep moving the goalposts, but the situation and my answer has not changed. For the third (and final) time: if there is a conscious choice to not enforce an existing law then they absolutely should be subject to discipline. If they were unaware of said law, then training should be provided so they are made aware of it and should be expected to enforce it from that point.

So let's say that they are all just unaware. After years in office, should the Governor be subject to discipline for not providing the proper training on this law? Maybe he should be impeached for allowing the state's law enforcement to be this bad at their jobs.

Or, alternatively, we can recognize that all law enforcement involves discretion in the real world at all levels.

DeSantis has no real basis to suspend Warren. It's just a simple raw immoral exercise of power, because DeSantis is a moral cripple without a soul, anxious to rile hatred.

Republicans in the state legislature have long sought to limit the ability of cities to act progressive and humane and to establish local standards. They establish top-down state policies which arguably violate the Home Rule provisions of the state Constitution. They love the exercises of raw power because they know they lacked the power to persuade and exercise power legitimately.

This is past the point where there is any good faith basis to believe that you can work with these people

Find me the Florida Statute that includes that prohibition. As best as I can tell from a quick search the only evidence of it seems to be citationless claims on “look at these weird laws” lists.

What county had both a mandate adopted by the County Commission calling for enforcement by the sheriff and a sheriff who made the blanket statement that they would not enforce it? I don’t know that one exists, which kind of makes it a moot question…

You are absolutely wrong about that. Prosecutors always have discretion. Moreover, it's not even the case here. There has not yet even been a case in which there has been no prosecution. The law was not even formalized.

Beside all that, it is a fundamentally immoral law, which humans with a soul should not seek to enforce.

The Gov is busy being the anti-Gillum …… no drugs, no overdosed male pornstars, no indictment on federal fraud and conspiracy charges.

Sexual orientation is a different issue than sex or gender identity. Since birth, the sex/gender of kids are made clear to them and displayed for everyone to recognize based upon various social cues. I think kids pick up on a distinction between boys/girls and men/women whether or not there is any formal "talk" or instruction about it. I think sexual orientation is different; that isn't about biological sex or gender but about romantic attraction. From what I can gather, there's a pretty big age range at which kids know their sexual orientation or might have a basic appreciation for what that even means.

The most important thing to me is that kids should be taught to respect and not bully others. I think the vast majority of people would agree with that, but a problem that comes into play IMO is that a lot of people have religious/moral problems with anything LGBT related and fear that any discussion of these things is going to amount to a promotion of it.

It's becoming less about governing and leading and more about grabbing power and political grandstanding.

It's getting to the point where the people are losing their freedom of choice to elect our representatives. In Brevard County, Sheriff Wayne Ivey is manipulating the local Republican primaries by offering side jobs to candidates if they will drop out of the primary so his hand picked candidates have a clear path.

Brevard sheriff's election controversy has third candidate emerge
