I’d agree with you as it pertains to the traditional role the Speaker takes. With the crazies running the asylum (the MAGA-created Freedom Caucus), if the Speaker starts forcing stupid, extremist agenda, I can see independents holding Republicans accountable up and own ticket in 2024.

The anti-intellectualism is insulting and a big part of why I am no longer an R.

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

While I don’t like religious right wing policies, at all, one could at least argue they are standing up for sincere beliefs and certain principles.

Now when you get someone who has those beliefs, or purports to, and at the same time is willing to virtually bow down to a guy like Trump and make excuses for anything he does, you have a very dangerous combination.

Does he think ending no fault divorce should be a state issue or does he want to nationalize that?

Johnson isn't Pelosi... He's the Speaker of the House, not the leader of the House Republicans. I doubt anybody can keep this bunch in line. They're all going to do what they want.

Listened to his acceptance speech. He has some charisma and witty humor, off the cuff. This was the right choice all along. Seems likable. Not sure why it took this long for the GOP to give him that push, but he got it and he projects quite well. A problem for Democrats down the road, to be sure.

New House Speaker Tells Hannity, ‘Go Pick Up a Bible Off Your Shelf and Read It – That’s My Worldview’

You once worked for the Alliance Defense Fund – a Christian advocacy group,” Hannity said. “And comments you made both in writing and advocacy for this group about homosexuality, calling it sinful destructive and not supporting gay marriage, quote, ‘no clear right to sodomy in the Constitution.’ You have been getting hammered on this. And I wanna ask you about it. I wanna know exactly, you know, where you stand. Some of these comments were 15 years ago.”

What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?'” I said, “Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it – that’s my worldview. That’s what I believe and so I make no apologies for it.

It goes on. what a vile nutter even if he he is a secret “they”

I'm sure when you read 12 pages of people griping about how terrible Todd Grantham was you were like " damn, he must be good."

    Solid take.

Since he has been crowned, "MAGA Mike," the pressure is going to be ramped up on this country's nut jobs to murder Biden and Harris and elevate him to the presidency.

I agree his acceptance speech was eloquent. He speaks well. Definitely came up as likeable and amenable... but that's not who he really is. Once you peel back the layers of the onion his true self is apparent.
