This is the problem with all of those people that think they can out big government immigrants: we spend all of this money to hurt us (no different than tariffs in that regard). Research has shown that restricting immigration hurts local workers and that, over generations, it hurts the country due to a lack of upwardly mobile children. It ignores why America became a big deal in the first place. The immigration laws of the 1920s and their derivative laws that remain with us today are some of the worst laws passed in the history of this country.

Not bad so much as futile, which is why the previous administration’s plan was so ridiculous.

As Long as there have been Homo sapiens, there has been migration. If the future unfolds as it seems to be doing with climate change, food and water shortages portend more migration than ever before in recent history. Having said that, I fully understand the haves needing to defend what they have. Every species is so compelled.

This sounds good. I'm glad the Biden Administration is at least recognizing the border as an issue.

I'm just old enough to remember leftists (including on this forum) calling Trump's wall a "symbol of bigotry." Now, all of a sudden, it's a good thing.

But yes, Mexico paying for border enforcement and security, I don't see a problem with that provided that there are no unreasonable strings attached.

 

A more logical solution. Start with a couple years of quiet PR work in Panama to get them to ask us to admittance as a state. Put in some serious money to show them how much better life can be as a part of the US while doing the PR stuff in Costa Rica. Rinse and repeat until all of the central American countries are states. Slowly absorb Mexico the same way. It will take 30-50 years to get there, and I don't think we have the political vision to stick with it, but it would solve a lot of problems and make us a ton of money. Tourism (and medical tourism) would skyrocket, and we would have control over the panama canal again.

 

Just declare war on Mexico for a week to cut through the red tape, they will fold like Bidens knees going up AF1's stairs.
