I have spoken with the mods and they agreed to allow another football pick’em contest, and I am honored to be hosting it. This contest will differ from RealtyGator’s in several ways: Each week, I will select a handful of games to choose from. It should be around 10 games, depending on matchups that week. Each contestant will pick 5 winners from the selection of games. Point spreads DO NOT matter in your selection, you only need to pick the outright winner of the game to get your points for that selection. Selections will be ranked, with first selection worth 5 points, second worth 4 points, third worth 3 points, etc. If you pick all 5 winners correctly in the games you select, you would get 15 points for the week. The weekly allotment of games that will be available for selection will be based on the following: 1. Point Spread – I will be picking games with the closest point spreads. As mentioned before, contestant picks are based on winners only, with no spreads. If games like Alabama Vs. McNeese St. were available, no doubt everyone would bet on Alabama as their 5-pointer. I will try to mostly include games where the favorite is favored by less than 7 points. 2. UF/SEC Games – For obvious reasons, I will try to include as many UF/SEC games as possible, given the criteria above. 3. Games with National interest and high-profile games. Some weeks might be tough to select enough competitive games with interest. This is surely to be the case in Week 1 as a lot of teams schedule cupcakes for the first week. I can tell you for certain that the LSU/FSU game will available on the Week 1 list as it fits all of the criteria nicely! This contest will also be 15 weeks. 13 Weeks of regular SEC schedule, playoffs and then bowl games. The bowl game week will be last, but it will be a bonus week, where contestants pick 10 games instead of 5. This will mean that you can get up to 55 points the last week of the contest. I feel this should make things more interesting and I believe a lot more people will be in the running to win towards the end of the season. Only one team from any game is allowed to be selected. In other words, you couldn’t pick LSU as your 5 pointer, and FSU as your 4 point selection (guaranteeing yourself at least 4 points). I don’t know why anyone would do that intentionally, except maybe if someone got a huge lead and wanted hedge a win. But nonetheless, it will not be allowed. If this is done intentionally or accidentally, the first pick will be valid, and the second pick will be counted as a no-pick (0 points). Each week, I will post a new thread with the games available for that week. I will do it on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest. Contestant picks will be due at Noon on that Saturday unless otherwise noted (Same as Realty’s for ease). I am going to limit the number of players to 40 (possibly subject to change) this season, as it is my first, and I’m not 100% sure how much time this is going to take! I will do it first come, first serve on the Week 1 thread. So basically, the first 40 picks in week 1 will be in for the season. If anyone doesn’t make picks for a week, they will receive 0 points for that week. No one will be removed, because I’m creating a spreadsheet and once you’re in, you’re in. If I do this contest again in future years and there is still some sort of cap, it will be based on previous participation. When making weekly picks, simply post them in order as shown below: Team A Team B Team C Team D Team E There is no need to put any numbers or point values on them. Your first (top) pick will be the 5-pointer, second will be your 4-pointer, etc. When making your picks, post your picks first, and then if you have any other comments in your post, they should come after. This will help with entering your picks into my spreadsheet weekly. I don’t want to have to scroll through each post looking for picks. Results and running totals will be posted weekly, similar to the way it’s done in Realty’s. Bear with me for the first few weeks as I try to figure out the best / most concise way to post from my spreadsheet. As stated, you can get 15 points maximum weeks 1 through 14, and then 55 points maximum for the bowl week. So, 265 is possible if you get every pick correct the whole season! Most points at the end of the Season wins. As this is the first time doing this, I anticipate there might be some questions or clarifications needed. Feel free to reach out in this thread and I’ll be happy to help. Looking forward to doing this and I hope everyone enjoys it! Go Gators!!!
Does everyone pretty much get the concept from my initial post? It makes sense to me, but my mind works a little different than everyone else's. Also, yes, I'll be playing both mine and Realty's this year too! I will also be winning Realty's this year, so don't any of you get your hopes up! I did come in like 2nd or 3rd last year, so look out!
One question I might have overlooked. Of you pick wrong do you deduct those points or is it just a zero?
I thought for sure the other day you were describing a suicide league. This is going to be fun as well...
Yes, but is it okay to put my top pick as 1 then go to 5? 1 2 3 4 5 Or do you need it to be: A B C D E
Someone was, I forget who... I had just asked them a question about their league. BTW, that contest was Brutal! lol
No letters or numbers needed. Just list you picks in order of confidence. For example, using random teams: Alabama Tennessee Kentucky Idaho Ole Miss You would get 5 points if Alabama wins, 0 if they lose. You would get 4 points if Tennessee wins, 0 if they lose You would get 3 points if Kentucky wins, 0 if they lose You would get 2 points if Idaho wins, 0 if they lose You would get 1 point if Ole Miss wins, 0 if they lose
I think it will be a blast! I think the hardest part for me will be finding the 10 or so games each week for players to pick from. Obviously, I want evenly matched teams so that there isn't an overwhelming favorite, but I also don't want to have a lot of directional schools that no one knows much about. I'll have to find a balance...
