Way to represent in San Antonio!!!! Haven’t seen it talked about much but we were at least even in attendance and much much louder than fans of a Houston team playing in its home state. I expected it to be like a home game for Houston. It was not. And then hundreds, if not thousands, of Gators lining the Riverwalk until almost 1 am waiting for the band and the team to float by. Magical night. Magical team. So proud to be a Gator.
Looked like a great host city too. The shots from Riverwalk are amazing. Props to everyone that made it out there and supported.
Filling up the O-Dome was pretty special too! I sure miss those days. I remember the first and second football natty celebrations. I remember meeting the basketball team at the airport after they won their first SEC title. I remember the pandamonium in the streets after winning our first football SEC championship (that was later vacated). Those were some great times. I'm glad the current students get to experience it.
You are 1000% correct. We matched their fans in their state and were much louder. And yes, myself and 1,000’s waited 2 full hours after the game for the Riverwalk championships boat parade. akaGatorhoops figured you would get a kick out of this since you have been tough on our fan support. We had more fans in San Antonio than all other teams. When it matters Gator Nation shows up to support the team.
My friend and I made the trip out from Denver and had an awesome time! Weather was amazing, the pre game party at Hard Rock was great! So many Gators on the RiverWalk. Our only compliant was having to wait till 130am for the boat parade but once it started, it was awesome!!
I was really excited by the turnout that was apparent on tv; the excitement we saw from the city and the sellout crowd at the watch party. I thought it was awesome!
My daughter, who doesn't know anything about basketball and just moved out to Austin on Saturday, from Gaineville, to start a job, calls me Monday and says "Guess where I'm going?" Yep, San Antonio for the game, along with a crew of gator fans she works with. So jealous, but happy for her, even though she only went to see the confetti.
On Monday leading up to the game there were literally 10 times as many Gators as Cougars. Obviously lots of Houston fans drove in so it evened out, but we had a phenomenal showing. Unreal support. San Antonio was painted orange and blue all weekend. Also, San Antonio should host every year.
Wait really? I had a bunch of friends that went together and said it wasn’t even close. I am just reporting from a bunch of friends that were in the lower area near the production stage and they said it was a sea of red but Gators were representing which I was surprised (them telling me it was mostly Houston) by when I saw the odome full. Well I hope they were wrong.
Pretty much everyone I've heard from said the pre-game activity around San Antonio was all Gator. Then inside the stadium was like 60-40 Houston at best. Assumed most Houston people drove in for the game and left.
Absolutely incredible turnout by GATOR fans, and the passion in the stands was absolutely nuts (especially late in the game). I know Twoda kept the GATOR faithful going in the back of 110. Not going to haggle about whether there were slightly more Houston or GATOR fans at the game, but what struck me was there were a ton of folks who genuinely cared about the result of the game (not a ton of impartial folks or spectators). For as much as I hate the layout of the basketball game being played in a football stadium, there's no way a basketball facility would have accommodated as many fans. I'd be curious to know how the student experience was behind the goals. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Streets of San Antonio were all Gator. Inside the Alamodome the lower levels were a pretty even split but the upper deck looked to be more red. The number of Gators fans I knew who I ran into in San Antonio was wild - found people I knew all around town and seated around us in the dome. I was shocked how well we traveled for this one.
Gator fans outnumbered Houston fans by far outside of the stadium. Inside the stadium I would say Gators outnumbered Houston in the lower bowl, they outnumbered us in the upper bowl. Switch the circumstances and if the Gators were a few hour drive from the game while Cougar fans would need to fly in from all over the country and it would have been 90/10 Gators inside and out, easily.
