Yeah I do know the difference the foreign guy is in jail and the American arms dealers are in mansions.

I consider Snowden a POS and if the Russians want him back I wouldn't object to including him in a trade.

The lawyers of WNBA star Brittney Griner, Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov, said in a written statement following the verdict announcement that the court ignored all the evidence they presented and that they will appeal the decision.

“We are very disappointed by the verdict. As legal professionals, we believe that the court should be fair to everyone regardless of nationality. The court completely ignored all the evidence of the defense, and most importantly, the guilty plea,” they said in the statement.
“This contradicts the existing legal practice. Taking into account the amount of the substance (not to mention the defects of the expertise) and the plea, the verdict is absolutely unreasonable. We will certainly file an appeal,” they added.

Which illustrates a reason not to make the trade. Russia will simply resort to this tactic again in the future.

So you think they will stop if we don't do anything? When has "not negotiating with terrorists" ever worked lol? So many people willing to throw people under the bus for a meaningless slogan.

She was in THEIR country, she broke THEIR laws, she gets THEIR sentence. Seems fair to me, and I hope we don't trade.

Stop? I don’t know about that but I certainly wouldn’t encourage them.

I’d negotiate with a terrorist since we have the ability to subsequently go after them. That’s not the case with a nuclear power.

So, you'd let someone spend 9 years in jail (lets forget that we told her to plead guilty to make a deal easier) over a "principle" that might not deter anyone from doing anything? That's pretty messed up.

Weird statement from her lawyers. You would think they were unfamiliar with the concept of a show trial. Gary Powers, the captured Doolittle Raiders, the captured members of the July Plot against Hitler … I don’t recall hearing that their “lawyers” complained about the spot of the ball when the final score was already posted before they walked onto the field.

Damn good point. It's just like those Jews in Germany who disobeyed the law requiring them to wear yellow stars on their garments. Break the law, get gassed. Sounds about right. Same thing with being a practicing homosexual in some countries. Break the law, do the time.

I don’t know their usual sentencing guidelines but this seems like an “own the libs” move.

9 years is harsh and makes you want to call Russia a dictatorship with inhumane rules….then I remember there are people right here who have gotten 10+ years for having a little weed in places like Louisiana, Mississippi etc
