POLL: Should the US trade Viktor Bout for Brittney Griner?

That would suggest Trump and Biden haven’t tried to get the other dude out. Not sure that is a foregone conclusion.

Why wouldn’t Trump or Biden be doing all they could? It’s good for their image and the right thing to do. No upside to leave him there to rot if there is something either president could do.

My first thought is that it really Isn't a hot button issue. No one knows about most of these people so no one loses sleep.

I was more referring to why Trump and Biden have failed to get him home and why they may not do "everything".

I understand that those paying attention knew of him, but the average voter probably didn't and Griner is a well known figure.

Bringing her home, certainly gets more attention than some unknown dude to our sound byte society

 

CNN is reporting who Putin wanted for Whalen. He’s a ex military/spy convicted of murder in Germany serving a life sentence. I had suggested in an earlier post that they want someone we don’t have the power to exchange at least not without a lot of negotiation. This bears that out. Pretty sure it’s going to get done soon though.

Russia demanded that a spy held in Germany be freed in exchange for Paul Whelan | CNN Politics

 

CNN is reporting that Russia would not release Whelan unless one of their former spy colonels, Vadim Krasikov, was also released, but he is in German custody for murder in Germany. The US offered up several other Russians that are in US custody but Russia said no to Whelan unless they got Krasikov.
