Should the Department of Education be closed?

    That side of the equation is irrelevant to my point. Right wingers send their kids to elite schools if they can.

    True, but you made your point religiously.
    I was thinking geographically…there are better fits for my family.
    I loved my time in Gainesville but I always felt it wasn’t the best fit for me.
    I’ll guide my children to southern schools.

    In 2021 27% of the dept of education’s budget went to compensation. That’s $683 million for 4028 FTEs. That’s approximately $170K per head on average.

    Does the US really need 80 federal employees per state to help each state run their public schools?? How many other people are involved in the oversight and administration of public education at the state and county level?

    I’d say the federal dept of education is not really needed. Wasn’t it started by good old Jimmy Carter?
