REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) — The Secret Service has acknowledged it denied some requests by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign for increased security at his events in the years before the assassination attempt on him at a recent rally.

In the immediate aftermath of the July 13 attack, the law enforcement agency had denied rejecting such requests. But the Secret Service acknowledged late Saturday, a week after the attempt on Trump’s life, that it had turned back some requests to increase security around the former president.

The reversal is likely to be a key focus of a congressional hearing Monday where Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is expected to appear before lawmakers who have been expressing anger over security lapses that allowed a 20-year-old gunman to climb atop the roof of a nearby building at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and fire his weapon.

The reality isn't nearly as bad the headline. Had nothing to do with the rally at Butler. They cite a request for additional snipers in June or July 2023 which the USSS didn't have available snipers so local law enforcement provided snipers. Also cited things like wrestling and sporting events and noted that it's not uncommon for requests like that to be turned down depending on availability of resources.

When I first saw the headline I thought it looked really bad for Mayorkas but he was clearly answering the question in terms of Butler and recent events.

 

I wonder if the opposition wished Hitler well after Operation Valkyrie failed ? Perhaps they addressed him as Adolf ?

I believe this is the real reason Biden withdrew. It was lied about until they couldn’t lie about it anymore. “We didn’t have the resources” isn’t going to fly when you’re sending $150 billion to Ukraine. We had the resources. They were purposely withheld and a former POTUS nearly died as a result. Biden is not going to escape that.

I believe this situation may have been the final straw for Joe Biden ….. the fact his administration failed to adequately protect a former president who was at the time Biden’s opponent in the 2024 presidential election which led to the assassination attempt on Trump coming within 1-2” of being successful.
