So the Secret Service detail was supposedly beefed up for this event due to an Iran threat. Makes it worse.

Secret Service ramped up security after receiving intel of Iranian plot to assassinate Trump; no known connection to shooting | CNN Politics

US authorities obtained intelligence from a human source in recent weeks on a plot by Iran to try to assassinate Donald Trump, a development that led to the Secret Service increasing security around the former president in recent weeks, multiple people briefed on the matter told CNN.

There’s no indication that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the would-be assassin who attempted to kill the former president on Saturday, was connected to the plot, the sources said.

The existence of the intelligence threat from a hostile foreign intelligence agency — and the enhanced security for Trump — raises new questions about the security lapses at the Saturday rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and how a 20-year-old man managed to access a nearby rooftop to fire shots that injured the former president.

“Secret Service learned of the increased threat from this threat stream,” the official told CNN. “NSC directly contacted USSS at a senior level to be absolutely sure they continued to track the latest reporting. USSS shared this information with the detail lead, and the Trump campaign was made aware of an evolving threat. In response to the increased threat, Secret Service surged resources and assets for the protection of former President Trump. All of this was in advance of Saturday.”

well it certainly is safer to put someone inside a building than on a roof (flat or sloped) although not sure what sort of protection they can provide from inside the building.

Here we go again. Gotta hand it to the right-wing apparatus. They sure know how to create a villain for their base. Doesn't matter how deranged the claim is.

Apparently a homeless man walking around with a knife in his hand… outside the secured perimeter, about 2 miles from the event… police said he “turned toward them”, so they shot him…

He was shot by an Ohio cop who came to Milwaukee to beef up security…

Yeah, a push for a more diverse SS or perhaps even a hiring requirement could never happen in the US! Villian. You're too funny, lawyer. Why are you so afraid of the possibility of DEI in gov hiring process?

"Who said time to 'target' Trump?"

In retrospect, Biden shouldn't have used those words, but it was in a private phone call with donors. Was he urging the donors to become violent? OF COURSE NOT!

How does one describe that? Amazing? Incredible? I don't have a predicate adjective to describe it.

BTW, that graphic appears to show 3 bullets passing close to Trump's head. Is that what happened?

I'm not afraid of the government embracing diversity. Nor am I afraid of the government valuing equity. And I'm certainly not afraid of the government making their workplaces inclusive. Now, feel free to explain to the class how any of these things is relevant to the shooting. Do you think that this guy got a few shots off because the Secret Service hires women and Black people?

I love it when the left call Trump a draft dodger while ignoring the fact that the same Dr that OKed Biden to play high school football signed his draft deferment.

more infor. they took his picture, the SS sniper team, and they lost track of him. sneaky dude, poor coverage, or just blind luck to fall into the hole?

Sniper took picture of Trump rally shooter before attack, source says (msn.com)

A sniper from a local tactical team deployed to assist the U.S. Secret Service at former President Donald Trump's rally on Saturday took a picture of the gunman and saw him looking through a rangefinder minutes before he tried to assassinate the former president, a local law enforcement officer with direct knowledge of the events told CBS News.

The sniper was one of three snipers, members of local tactical teams, who were stationed inside the building that the shooter used in the attack, the officer said. The operations plan had them stationed inside, looking out windows toward the rally, scanning the crowd. The details about the three snipers were first reported by the local news outlet BeaverCountian.com.

One sniper inside spotted the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, outside and looking up at the roof, observing the building and disappearing, according to the officer who spoke to CBS News. The sniper observed Crooks as he returned to the building, sat down and looked at his phone. At that point, one of the local snipers took a picture of Crooks.

Fair point. But, it was Trump who refused to honor McKain as a war hero, after all McKain sacrificed for his country.

    Shameful.

Appreciate the friendly response. For lack of better explanation. I spent a lot of time training Civilians how to react when things go bad. Violent confrontations etc. started long ago a personal curiosity as to why different stimuli affected people differently. Trumps reaction was pretty normal. One second he's ‘performing’ then it gets real real. Asking for shoes, keys, purse , phone is common. Some of the SSA performed well. The one larger bald guy was calm and giving instructions. Not a rookie. Well trained. Some of the others. Well. Not good

I’m thinking that wasn’t interpreted correctly and meme brains are running with it, where’s the original quote for the “sloped roof”? Wasn’t it established local PD had that outside area? Maybe it was they who failed to go on the roof. I don’t believe secret service “refused”. It doesn’t even make sense as that appears to be a much lower and far less sloped roof than where their counter snipers actually were.

not to thread creep and maybe this belongs in another thread. but I’m curious. Should the Royals have selected a 5’4 Asian kid instead of Cags ? Or should they take whoever they think will help their organization ? What about Napier? Should he be on the hot seat for not making DEI a priority in next years class? If not, why not? he could make a similar goal as the secret service secretary and announce the football coach staff will Be be 30% female by 2030? Or should he go just got get the who he thinks are the best coaches for his organization ?
