Based on the satellite photos of the site, yikes, this was a massive security failure. There is only one set of buildings considered “outside of the security parameter” in this field. Nothing else but farmland all around. The shooter was 400 feet away. Barely one football field away. The USSS chose not to secure this lone group of buildings. It’s totally baffling. The shooter should have never made it up on that roof. Let alone fire off several rounds. Wow.
Minor child with mental health issues in Michigan, Much bigger leap for an adult 20 year old. Unless he had specific and documented mental health issues, but if the gun was “stolen” still quite different than if it was literally gifted to him.
Just saw an aerial photo indicating the shooter used a ladder to access the roof from which he discharged his weapon. Where did he get a ladder? Was he walking around the grounds carrying a rifle and a ladder and no one saw him?
The SS is not infallible and never has been. They have failed numerous times - also been successful many more times. Kennedy, Wallace, Reagan, Ford, Ford again, attempts on Obama are notable lapses. Many of these guys have overridden the SS advice to be out among the people though.
Don’t know if you know but that’s a post from former sniper Nick Irving, The Reaper from the 75th Ranger Regiment.
You don't know he was a gun nut. Anyone that was would not have missed from that distance. That was a easy shot with pretty much any rifle that is zeroed in. A "gun nut' would have had the gun zeroed in and enough practice they would not have missed. So much for you waiting on the facts to come out.
Yep, that's why it's a very powerful tweet. But thank you for saying it out loud for others to see/know.
So wait, now we can't define a guy uses an assault weapon, to commit violence, basically a suicide mission, targeting a former president, killing and injuring random people in the process, as a gun nut? Nevermind the shirt he was wearing ... geez, how do you define gun nut?
“Gun nut” = nut job with a gun Trump got shot by a registered republican gun nut and I’m going to wait for further facts to come out. Thank you.
Sure and liberals are all over twitter claiming he is a republican. The point is he is clearly mentally ill to throw his whole future away over whatever point he was trying to make
To me a gun nut is someone obsessed with guns. We have several examples on this site. This guy might be a gun nut, or just another unbalanced weirdo looking to take revenge against the world.
I saw a tweet that said state police determined a teleprompter was hit and glass fragments hit his ear. So could also explain the immediate bleeding. Take it for FWIW, it was a tweet.
This is an oddball take. Trump wasn’t standing still, the guy isn’t “zeroing in” on a stationary target. All it takes is one turn or movement or the shooter to flinch. It was definitely a near miss. It’s not like the guy went into a store or school and started spraying bullets. I’m sure an expert sniper or marksman probably wouldn’t miss. But then a military sniper wouldn’t automatically be called a “gun nut” either. Actually I think the connotation of a gun nut pretty much means a NON professional with an irrational love of guns or an irrational stockpile. People who like to “pose” with guns and such. I don’t think one gun makes a person a gun nut by any stretch, fascination with the YouTube channel maybe made him an emerging gun nut or something. Not sure why you’d want to split hairs over that gun nut label in either case considering the obvious. The guy was a nut. The guy had a gun which he used to do a nutty thing. The guy was enough of a fan of a gun enthusiast YouTube channel to have their attire.
I think this is a fine definition of gun nut and look forward to the left no longer referring to anyone who isn’t a nut job but has guns as a gun nut.
I still can’t get over given the layout of the site, why that lone group of buildings wasn’t secured in the first place. Look at the satellite photos. Such a no brainer. It’s like they were inviting a gunman by not securing such an obvious threat zone.
