Not really. This incident helps to illustrate how silly the Denmark thread is. Or perhaps you did not get the reference.

I didn’t. I don’t even remember a Denmark thread. Anyway, I apologized. I shouldn’t have said “stupid” and usually don’t (but do think it on occasion).

 

Horrific thread.

 

If there’s a god, what must it be thinking? That he goofed yet again? Man, what art thou?

 

What more can any of us say. It keeps happening. And too many in this country just don't care to try and do something about the problem.

 

The Denmark thread should be ignored.
This is a special demented kind of monster. I will be very curious to see what kind of person sits in hiding waiting for family and kids to show up. I will also be interested to know more about how he got the gun he used, what kind of gun he used and whether or not he was in anyones radar. Lately it seems most of these unexplainable shootings are 18-25 year olds who were well known to law enforcement and where considered dangerous by people that knew them. Will this shooter fit that description?
I thought steps are being taken to help slow the gun violence. Enacting red flag laws, raising minimum age to buy a rifle, more thorough background checks, etc…

 

They just named the suspect at the press conference. Robert E Crimo III, 23. Still at large

 

Wondering what kind of weapon was used. "High powered rifle" usually means a large caliber hunting rifle but this weapon must have been semi-automatic with a high capacity magazine. AK-47? Don't think you could buy that legally in Illinois.

Dear Friends,

We are shocked and saddened by the horrible mass shooting this morning at the July 4th parade in Highland Park, in our own Chicagoland community. We have dear family members and friends in the area and have been frantically trying to reach them to ensure their safety.

The images and stories pouring out are heart-breaking and disturbing.

As of writing, the shooter is still at large. The whole area is terrorized.

We pray for the healing of the injured, for the law enforcement agencies who are tracking the perpetrator, and for the safety of a whole community.

Our hearts are wrenched for our brothers and sisters.
As we know, Highland Park is an area with a big Jewish population. I have reached out to our sister congregations to offer help and express our solidarity on this very challenging day.

It is unacceptable that we are living with this plague of gun violence.

We will, as always, be re-examining our security with the partnership of JUF and other national organizations.

Ad Matai? How long will this continue?

We are called to redouble in our efforts to put an end to this violence.

Even as we may believe that we have exhausted all of our means of action, let us keep praying, marching, and pushing our elected officials for answers.

We turn to the Shomer Yisrael, the Guardian of Israel, for protection for all, for strength and wisdom, and for peace.

For some reason watching people with children ducking and running while being escorted by LEOs with rifles makes we want to break down in tears. It's unthinkable to imagine so many innocent people, including children, being subjected to a war zone. That's not America, dammit! This has got to STOP.

 

It's a shame he didn't leave his grey matter at the scene.

 

Most of these mass shootings seem to be young shooters. When I was in high schools you saw rifles in the rear window of pickup trucks in the school parking lot. The only mass shootings I can remember were the Texas tower shooter and a couple of interstate overpass shooters. Seems to me more than just guns need to be addressed.
