MAGA rube telling others it’s “too soon” to be doing something after another deadly mass shooting. Typical.

    All shooters: INSANE!

Especially the sane ones who meticulously plan and exploit gun culture.

Family members covered for the kid, denied he made any threats to them. Cops didn’t write it up and log it so the kid passed his background check. This is in family not being honest about a deadly issue.
The new legislation that has been passed allows the background check to see juvenile records. That may help but parents and family memebers have to be upfront and honest

It proves that alone those measures aren’t enough. Only a person with a slanted view of common sense would say the answer are less measures if the current measures don’t work. Case closed.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The suspect in Monday's deadly mass shooting in Highland Park threatened to "kill everyone" with knives and swords in 2019, which raises the question of how Bobby Crimo was able to obtain a FOID card in 2020.

CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey has been digging into that part of the investigation.

Illinois State Police defended how the suspect was able to get a FOID card in 2020, just four months after Highland Park Police were called to his home after he threatened to kill his family with his collection of knives and swords.

CBS 2 has learned Bobby Crimo passed four different background checks between June of 2020 and September of 2021. The only thing that came up was a 2016 for violation for possessing tobacco.

This is not a one off...and people still wonder why conspiracy theories attach themselves to these stories?

2 things stand out to me

    1. These mass shooters like Uvalde, Highland park, Buffalo… are almost always under 25 males. 18-24 is such a narrow slice of time. What is happening in these young peoples lives that are setting them off? I have suspicions that it may have something to do with the rise in social media platform popularity… just my own hypothesis.

    2. Almost all of these shooters where know to LE long prior to the shootings. All had a violent past. All had disturbing warning signs that were ignored by family, friends, classmates, etc…

Lately I have seen a lot of posts all over the internet lumping all mass shootings together in order to get a big number… something like over 300 so far this year. And that is too many. However, those numbers include inner city shootings. Handle related shootings. Almost all of which are done with hand guns. I find it disingenuous when pundits want to lump all the shootings together to get bigger data points but then want to separate out only those incidents that use a high power rifle in order to push their agenda.

We don’t need more gun control laws. We need BETTER more FOCUSED gun co trial laws. Until very very recently politicians haven’t wanted to do anything but blame the black scary looking gun(even though most mass shootings are done with a 9mm).

Background checks won’t work unless the warnings and red flags are logged and placed in the system.

Red flag laws won’t work unless we clearly define how and when they should be triggered. Family and friends will hesitate to turn in loved ones… but someone (LE?) needs the authority to make that call when evidence warrants it.

Moving the age to buy guns to 24 would seem to make a difference ( unless applicant is actively in the service or has served and gotten out with out a dishonorable discharge).

Local DAs need to stop the revolving door for the violent repeat offenders.
We need much longer and harsher penalties for being caught with an illegal gun or carrying illegally. Jail time.

I clearly don’t have all the answers but with each passing shooting it seems easier to narrow down some of the common factors that need to be addressed.

I haven't voted since 2004. That eliminates me from even your overly broad definition of MAGA.

Most violent crime at any point in history has been committed by young men, you could just as easily blame motion pictures, hot jazz or rock music. We've simply added easy availability of guns to the mix here.

Background checks are only as good as data that gets entered into the system. It enters through a zillion points (criminal Justice system) and there are zero guidelines for mental health.
    Attempted suicide, nope

Yep. Per the DOJ's stats 18-24 has dwarfed 25+ in murder rate for every year on record. Sometimes by as much as 10x in the 18-20 range. Even 15-17 has generally been 2-3x the older group.

Perhaps it's time to expand civil liability to the family of these whack jobs.

They made 'em, they ought to own 'em and the horror they share.

The last family of a shooter I heard interiviewed made my blood #$#@$#@$ boil--the Uvalde douchebag I think it was.

They were talking about their own family member as if were as distant a person as he was to you or I.

    Bullshit.

You make monsters....you need to own the monsters you make and their @#$@# destruction.

Two things about the Chicago Tribune piece, reprinted in the Times.

First is silly. I know it is journalistic convention to use “alleged” to describe a suspect until convention, but this is sloppy - calling the shooting “alleged.”

After escaping, Crimo walked to his mother’s house and borrowed her vehicle, Covelli said. There is no indication he shared anything about the alleged shooting with his mother.

More seriously is the proverbial why did he choose here?

They argued over why it happened here, in the tight-knit community they once thought was safe. Across the table, Jim Terman said he had been watching the parade from the block where the shooting happened. He can’t stop thinking about it.

Has the antiSemitic angle been debunked or is it being disappeared? I thought he timed his shooting to the band and attacked an event with a traditional emphasis on the city’s Jewish heritage? Is that just coincidence?

Attack planned for weeks - Tampa Bay Times

This guy was 21. An adult. So that’s pretty absurd.

If it was a 12 year old who accessed the parents unsecured gun, or if the parents were the purchaser of the gun (despite his mental illness) then you might have some sort of point. I’m all for going after parents who allow their minors to access guns, where it results in tragedy.

Otherwise as he was an adult who
(apparently) legally purchased the gun himself we might as well extend your logic to prosecuting/suing other parties responsible for these monsters. Like the NRA. Facebook/Discord/4Chan The gun shop owners/staff. The makers of violent video games. Etc. They may have more to do with this lunacy than the parents you want to persecute.

A lot of these freaks kill a family member before doing their heinous deed. Think the Sandy Hook parent, who was a damn school teacher. The kid shot his mom and took her guns. Let’s say she somehow survived being shot, are you saying you would pile on and try to hold her responsible as well?
