Can we get a tone play on the first series from Cam Jackson, Shemar James or Princley??? D needs to set the tone of this one.
It'd be nice, but not always an indicator. GA went about 80yds on a TD run with their first play in '20. It didn't matter. Ohio St anyone? We need to be able to hang in the trenches for the duration of the game to have a chance.
In games where we’re made a big hit in the first series we’ve done well. Spikes, major wright come to mind. It’s different from a big offensive play. It’s more psychological. It says, ‘I am here’ that being said, I agree we have to hang in the trenches.
Relentless D, first play and then the entire game. Stick and wrap up. So hoping these guys want to step up and start a run of their own. "Get to the Quarterback." The late Al Davis, R.I.P. GO GATORS!!!!
It would be nice, but I don't think we have "that guy" yet. James could (and Wingo definitely could, if we use 3 LBs) but James isn't built for trucking folks yet.
Yes, offensively big plays early are not an indication how things will go the rest of the day. However, defensively, making big plays early, setting the tone, has some correlation for how the rest of the game may go. It’s all about the defense.
I guess I'm more of a pessimist, but IMO the GA offense will be looking for an overreaction from the Gator D trying to "Brandon Spikes" someone. And they will run a mis-direction, we will bite, and it will be a big play for them. (Like in 20.)
100% agree. Those were just the three best names I could come up with that after making a play like Brandon Spikes did might somehow have a similar reaction. James is the least of the three. I would actually think Cam Jackson, or Tyreek Sapp would do something like Spikes. Let’s just hope the D shows up. Their D is very good and Kirby is a defensive genius.
In a game like this we need our biggest, baddest edge rushers lined up as line backers... With 8 in the box...
Let's start with the College Game Day crew ALL picking Georgia.....now that would REALLY set the right tone for us!
