Would love to see it gone legally as well. We shouldn't treat people differently whether they are single, straight, gay, old young, rich, poor etc. Why are married folks allowed to file taxes together? It's not fair to single folks, and sex really doesn't have much to do with it.

It's about incentivizing marriage. And I agree with that. In the aggregate, more marriage is better than less marriage.

Totally disagree. Marriage is mostly a religious institution and has no business in government law. The only reason it should ever come up is for the kids, and it should be 50-50 straight down the board for economic support. Other than that, do whatever you want.

Been married 25 years. We were married at a resort, by a Justice of the Peace, nary a mention of any deity. I'm a better person because of my wife, as well as happier and healthier because of her. My wife and I are both agnostic, and are living proof that marriage is mostly a religious institution.

More choice and access is better. If you don’t like marriage don’t get married. If you do… we’ll then the Senate has voted to give you that choice.

Marriage has existed for thousands of years before the creation of any modern religion. For someone to claim marriage is a religious institution shows they don’t have a grasp of history...

Heaven forbid ( note religious connection) that we should encourage the long-term stabilization of a couple's relationship.

Did you read, or just get offended?

No one is claiming faith and religion can benefit relationships...

The statement thomand suggested is that “Marriage is mostly a religious institution and has no business in government law.” When in fact, marriage has been governed by law 2000+ years before any modern religion was established. His post indicates that government should have a say on marriage.

The fact is marriage is written into our government laws. I do not disagree with : "Marriage is mostly a religious institution" , however, it is in our laws and tax code and should therefore be available to all couples.

“So with the Democrats taking the Senate, they’re now going to move ahead with a vote on a gay marriage bill. Now, what is the purpose of a gay marriage bill? There is no purpose to a gay marriage bill. Obergefell has already been ruled upon, and a simple gay marriage bill is not even a constitutional amendment,” Shapiro began.

Putting aside any constitutional arguments, he expects Congress to wait to see if the Supreme Court reverses Obergefell before passing a law and putting Republicans on the record. Of course he does.

You neglected his other key argument on the impact of interplanetary relations. Bet you have no counter to this one!

So, both parents work? No homemakers, of either sex?

He tries hard to set forth secular arguments to oppose same sex marriage. I generally like when people of faith make an effort to identify secular arguments. To concede there aren't secular arguments on a given issue would also be problematic for them. But I've never heard him or anyone else explain exactly why or how same sex marriages are inherently harmful to heterosexual marriages. There's just an assumption that it must be so. For example, out of wedlock births, divorce rates, etc., were an issue long before our society began widely approving of same sex relationships - much less recognizing same sex marriages. I think that's largely why we wind up with ridiculous arguments like this about martians.

Absolutely. You are better person that I. You still address the issue soberly. I have a hard time doing that any longer with those Shapiro, or my Church

Right. Because we should all rely on the stability and consistency of our Supreme Court (particularly when one Justice overtly suggested he would reverse the period opinions providing marriage as a right).
