Coaching hires always a dice roll. Sometimes you get Muschamp, sometimes you get Kirby. All you can do is evaluate the resumes and try to project.
Well we're not going to be able to hire Kirby, so anything will come with some risk. Even if it's Urban, he might be washed up. Outside of that Kiffin maybe the closest to "proven" but Mullen had similar success at a Mississippi school. There are no slam dunks.
Actually, it was the polar opposite. Several were bashing anyone who didn't drink the Fire Billy Kool-Aid. With that said, I merely wanted to see what BN could do with Graham Mertz in year two. Did Mertz just have a bad day? Maybe, but I also think the QB is nowhere near the whole problem. The same problems on offense and defense are present again. My goodness, we supposedly have the #12 class in cfb, but it didn't look like it on Saturday. I put that on coaching!
I don't think Kerwin is an experiment. Just my opinions, but, I think he'd average 10-11 wins a season here just on give a shit alone.
The issue is with early signing day and the transfer portal, UF doesn’t have the luxury to wait around for some of the higher level names that will playing for 1-2 months after the season is over. If Kiffin makes the playoffs, there is no way he would be available until late in December at the earliest. That would mean 1-2 months without a coach with no guarantee he would come. That would mean 1-2 months of uncertainty allowing other teams to poach recruits and current players. So that leaves an up and coming coach or a coordinator at a P5 school if we want to fill the job quickly.
Since Urban - Musclecramp didn't spend enough time getting the offense going, Mackel shark was a lazy coach, Mullen was a lazy recruiter, I don't think Napier is lazy in either but just doesn't have a go for the throat attitude. I don't hate Napier but he has made watching this version of the Gators no fun to watch or follow. I'm indifferent to him staying or going at this point. Now, attracting a new coach based on The University of Florida alone is not going to happen. I don't think high profile good coaches want to come here anymore. BUT, want to know what would attract those coaches? We are in Florida and don't underestimate Mrs. Kiffin's desire to drive less than an hour to get to her beach house on the weekend. A good family life could still attract a quality coach to us.
Maybe but wouldn’t that be 3 teams in 3 years? Think he could do things to make us a winner immediately? I say that because I wasn’t on the Billy train that many others were that said he would need three, four, or five years, especially knowing that in today’s age you can win immediately with the right mindset. I said Billy had the wrong mindset. Simply unacceptable to have the mindset of 3-4 years before we can win and many fans ( some on this board) felt that mindset was ok, all the while Plenty of others were showing they could win in year one if Fisch can win 8/9 in year one then ok. Can he recruit?
Solid build not acceptable in today’s portal world. I’d ask Why, when you can win immediately. I keep saying as so many coaches have shown us that you can win immediately and should not have to wait 3 to 4 years for a ““ solid build.
With a ready made team. He needs a stafff. Are they available? He’s always had great coordinators. If he is interested, get it online yesterday and give him the opportunity to get those coordinators in place. We don’t need a haphazard staff put together in a couple months like Napier did before he joined us.
If we would’ve kicked the shit out of Miami yesterday, we wouldn’t be having this conversation and it would be just fine. We didn’t get it.
