The is no question that access to the internet has become a necessity in today's society. Cloud technologies have flooded the internet with your personal information. User accounts for Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, banking, insurance, State and Federal organizations, IOT devices for smart homes, baby monitors etc.. all come with access to your personal network.

The treasure trove of information has become a gold mine for nefarious actors at all levels of the IT spectrum. Relying on service providers to protect your personal data is not enough as anyone who has been the subject of these acts is aware.

While major businesses employ strategies to mitigate the possibility of personal data being compromised it is not enough. The devices an end user employs is also a target rich environment. Protections for this environment are the end user's responsibility. How to protect one's self from nefarious actors has become an imperative yet many end users have no idea what methods are best to employ for their own protection.

To raise end user awareness and what they can do to mitigate the loss of personal data the NSA has provided a guide on best practices to secure your home network.
