Gators ranked #2 in all polls out today. Hard to see how we lose the #2 seed overall unless we go 0-2. I agree with other comments- every time you put on the uniform to play ball- you play to win. Agree: no taxing arms, tight leash - 75-80 pitches tops and let Heyman or Lastres catch and let BT rest some. Also an opportuniy for Fabian, Thomas, Prevesk, Evans to get some reps.
The entire SECT is nearly meaningless to everyone except the local hotel/restaurant industry who get lots cash during what otherwise would be a dead business week. I'm convinced SEC staff get some sort of incentive for the long tournament. I've felt that way since the first two football championship games were crammed into the horrible B-ham stadium. Everything I've heard from Gator fans who regularly go to the tournament is that it's a lot of fun, good interactions with other team's fans, good BBQ, even moderately priced motels. My concen is that reaching the final game means overworking the pitching staff and risks injuries at a critical time of the season. I don't remember serious Gator injuries, but other SEC teams have lost important players. A team like UGa or Mizzou might win the tourney and sneak into a regional and someone might move to a 2 seed, rather than a 3. Most years, SEC teams are barely affected in a good way by their tournament results. I'd prefer a tournament of the bottom four teams with the winner getting the automatic bid. THAT would be a meaningful tournament.
Mingione can act like a whining jerk at times, but most of the Bama athletic program looks corrupt to me. As long as this tourney is held a stones throw from Tuscaloosa I will never attend nor root for Bama. Best case Bama has an early exit. The tourney is just a money maker for locals who are most likely Bama fans
I get the comments about Bama sports program oozing with corruption and sadly whenever there is a review on the field... it's "Birmingham" that makes the call. The Gators often get the short end of the stick on lots of reviews. But don't go there. Focus: This Gators Baseball team is a very special group of ballplayers and in my view they are the best in the country. Let's suit up and go out and play ball like we own the field. We have what it takes to go all the way. Go Gators!
Maybe, but we go to win the tournament or at least make a run at it. Wednesday is 6 days for Waldrep, that’s plenty of rest.
Pitch your best first to get back to your best quick. Let’s say Waldrep pitches on the 24th ( 5 full days of rest) you could throw him again on the 30th for 50 pitches and he’d be more than ready for regionals 3 days later. My theory is don’t save your best. Play to win game 1 and 2. If you have to start Slater and Nesbitt game 4 and 5 then do it. Hate to lose that first game.
It’s probably worth pointing out that some old schoolers may remember the SEC Tournament as having more meaning because there was a time when *the* SEC Champion was the team that won the SEC Tournament. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
If only there were or will be a time when the AQ is reg season champs. Then everything would make sense...
So we start Waldrep on short rest Wed 24th.....are you suggesting we might bring him back in the SEC tourney for 50 pitches? I ask because you reference the 30th, which is next Tuesday when no one is playing, since the SEC ends on the 28th. But if you are suggesting we bring Waldrep back again in the SEC and then try and start him on short rest yet again in regionals then you have lost your mind lol.
At this point in the season it is critical that our pitchers stay on the same routines that they have been in for proper recovery, preparation, and strong starts. That’s starters and bullpen. The time to consider pushing people to short rest scenarios IMHO is at the CWS—and then still within reason to player’s futures.
You guys are nuts, you start Waldrep every game until he starts to show signs of fatigue. Then you do the same with Sproat.... Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
I’ve posted before and still believe that the SECT only helps “bubble” teams—for the top teams it’s just a meat grinder at the end of the long regular season. It’s nice to win any games played but not at the cost of wearing your people out right in front of the long haul you’ve worked all season for IMHO.
Barring weather issues or extra long games, we play the winner of today's Alabama/Kentucky game at 5:30 on Wednesday.
Continues to amaze me how poor their program is given all the talent in the Atlanta area alone. But, I like it .
