It's not meaningless. And not difficult to define. If you break a law, you are subject to the jurisdiction if you can be arrested, tried, convicted, and punished under those laws. Know who is not subject to the jurisdiction in the US? Foreign diplomats (diplomatic immunity), foreign military with permission to be in the US (usually for training), and Native Tribes on tribal land. NA tribes have their own set of laws and courts. And originally, the 14th didn't cover Native Americans, but that changed in 1924 with the Indian Citizenship Act.

Its not meaningless, if you come here and kill someone regardless of your status, you get tried in America and go to American prison. If people within our borders werent subject to US jurisdiction, you couldnt charge them with any crimes, including crossing the border.

I am not “for” illegals coming here, either, but the question is not whether we are for it or against it. I think the question is what the Constitution provides. And I would suppose it would be, well … inconsistent, to advocate for a strict construction of the Constitution ONLY when that strict construction works on things we like.

I think wanting a constitutional amendment is different than stating what the law currently is, or is not. Maybe Jefferson had it right when he said there should be a constitutional convention every generation.

An executive order is not how you amend the Constitution...(see the article you posted)

What is sad is the degradation in both our citizenry and our politicians compared to the days of Jefferson. It was genuine legal scholars and philosophers that founded this great nation. Now we are run by the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene

It has a very clear meaning. It excludes the families of diplomats who are physically present but have immunity from US jurisdiction. If someone born here can be prosecuted for a crime here, then they are subject to the jurisdiction of the US.

But they do not supersede statutes and they definitely do not supersede the Constitution.

Yeah, the same article says 22 states are suing to block the Executive Order. Once Canada is made the 51st state, I'm guessing that number will go up.
