That’s great and it’s a shame more parents aren’t like you. If they were we wouldn’t be having this discussion blaming school closures being the reason for lost education.

The right talks a lot about freedom but freedom includes taking responsibility. Parents need to be prepared to take responsibility by getting their child to school, feeding them, and not sending their sick child to school for the school to care for.

With home schooling, the parents set the curriculum and educational materials. In-school learning, remote learning, and home schooling are all different. There are years of home schooling statistics you could use if you wanted to talk about the success or failure of that learning method. The only thing we learned from the last few years is that remote learning was the worst of the three methods.

Are you doing anything to help these children that were left behind academically Q? Volunteering as a tutor or something? Of course not. I’m not knocking homeschooling but to do it properly takes a lot of sacrifice, organization, and money. Some parents can do it very well while most don’t have a clue. You also have to deal with the lack of facilities where you don’t have a chemistry lab, gymnasium, or band hall in the home. Then the lack of socialization which is the same issue presented in remote learning. Some parents do an excellent job compensating but most can’t. Homeschooling can be a viable option for some, but advocating it as a cure, or a better option than remote learning for everyone is laughable.
You still haven’t answered the question. The union didn’t rewrite anything but asked that from your link “In the event of high community-transmission results from a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, a new update of these guidelines may be necessary.” In addition, from your link, the guidance allowed teachers “who have documented high-risk conditions or who are at increased risk for … COVID-19’ or ‘staff who have a household member’ with similar conditions to continue working from home.” These are hardly unreasonable requests.
I don’t disagree with anything you said here. However, none of it backs up your statement that homeschooling and remote learning are pretty much the same thing.
You are surely one that likes studies. Just use google. You will find more studies than you will know what to do with that shows the damage done. From straight drops in test scores. To future income loss. To lower life expectancy. Etc.
You asked how Public Health harmed kids. Well, the CDC chose to take advice from the Teachers unions on public policy. That is not what the CDC is supposed to do. It's ok to admit it. The Teachers unions wanted schools closed. The CDC was complicit in harming children.
They’re pretty much the same in that they rely on parents taking responsibility to make sure their children are doing what they need to do. Some here are blaming school closures, the teacher union, and even public health for the loss of education despite remote learning and summer schools being offered when the blame can be placed on the lack of participation due to poor parent supervision.
Of course, the closures hurt education. And they had to have much greater impact on the kids who didn't have the support at home to keep studying and keep learning. Another case of a widening gap ... As far as whether it was worth it in terms of health and lives saved/lost . that seems like speculation.
No one is arguing the damage, but where to place the blame. It true MAGA form you prefer to point fingers at the institutions rather than taking responsibility. Whatever floats your boat mate.
