I wouldnt want this person running my schools, but that said, swearing on the Bible is against the Bible and should not be a Christian practice anyway.

Interesting. That reading would seem to suggest that any and all oaths are against the Bible whether a Bible is used as part of the oath ceremony or not. If that's the case, wouldn't the same reasoning mean that Christians shouldn't take oaths as part of joining the military, taking public office or providing a sworn statement in court, for examples?

 

I believe most courts will allow you to "affirm" in exchange for "swearing"

 

I think "swear or affirm" language is pretty common in that context. I still consider it an oath, particularly sense testimony is given under the penalty of perjury. But there may be a Biblical distinction there depending upon one's interpretation.

 

Thats all it is.
Personally I believe the "oath" discussion in the scriptures is more telling us we should not need oaths. Oaths exist because of dishonesty.

And honest person doesnt need an oath to keep his/her word.
