The Allman Brothers Band Museum aka "The Big House" is located in Macon, Georgia. It was the home to The Allman Brothers Band's original members, their families, and various friends from 1970 to 1973. The Big House was renovated by The Big House Foundation and opened in November 2009 as an interactive museum dedicated to identifying and preserving the history of The Allman Brothers Band. It was rented from Day Realty for $225 a month by Linda Oakley, Berry Oakley's wife. The house is near Capricorn Records, which was The Allman Brothers recording studio. Dickey Betts wrote "Blue Sky" in the living room and "Ramblin' Man" in the kitchen of the Big House. "Please Call Home", "Ain't Wastin' Time No More", "Leave My Blues at Home" and "Midnight Rider" were also composed by Gregg Allman while living there. The Big House contains the world's largest collection of The Allman Brothers Band memorabilia.
While the band was from Macon, the Allman brothers themselves were from Daytona. As far as Georgia itself, once you get to Woodstock which is just north of Atlanta it's a beautiful place. Atlanta on down, not so much.
That album is the gold standard on many levels. But......if you do a little digging......the last performance (3 day event) at the Fillmore East was also legendary......
I lived in Ellijay and spent a great deal of time in Blue Ridge. Incredibly beautiful, especially in the fall.
Georgia state park system. Camping, cabin rentals, great hiking, views, lakes and some even have golf!
Vogel State park..was one we camped at a lot...they had cabin and tent sites with electricity and water hook ups....
The Big House was the first place I visited when I moved to GA a few years ago. Ever since, I've been wanting to get a 7 head shower in my own house.
