Anyone catch this? It wasn’t an ad it was 40+ minute infomercial led by “straight news” guy Brett Baier. Literally a love letter to MbS. I checked and of course a Saudi prince own 7% of the company.

Absolutely disgusting. I’m sure excerpt will be up on Mediaite soon

    Nope.

But if as described it’s just another example of this “news” corporation having absolutely no bottom. Should Baier register as a foreign agent?

Another love note to SA on Brett’s show. Right from the go 35 minutes before they get to a panel reaction of the love note and then “news”.

FCC should pull their license and or they should register as a foreign agent.

I suppose if that’s the standard then they will need to pull the licenses of CNN,NBC,MSNBC for interviews with Putin over the years, and or they should also register as a foreign agent..

This was not merely an interview with Bonesaws. It was an approximate 90 minute infomercial for the Kingdom over two days at the expense of actual “news” reporting. Not coincidentally a Saudi prince owns 7% of the company

Think the 7% ownership base is more relevant

Aside from the obvious fact Fox Newz also interviewed Putin - were any of those “puff pieces”? Did Putin pay for those interviews or own a stake in the company interviewing him? Did they come off as foreign state owned infomercials rather than interviews?

If you are going to do whataboutisms, at least have the comparison make some bit of sense.

I feel dumb. Is Stadia Arabia a typo or is there some meaning to it?

I’m sure all those interviews with Putin were hard hitting pieces that took him to task.
Hell a former POTUS chastised an opponent for saying Russia was a threat and the left roundly cheered him on for it.

As for Putin assets who the hell know what he owns pieces of. Do you really think he’s listed all his holdings?

I know that you’re being a bit facetious here, but I would see no reason to intervene even if Fox News extolled the virtues of MBS and Saudi Arabia 24/7. It should never be the government’s job to determine what private companies can say to private citizens (consistent with the 1A anyway). If people want to pay for that crap, who am I to stop them? If people don’t, Fox will go out of business on its own.

My gut is to agree with you. I did do a quick search out of curiosity. Not sure if this is current or whether or how it might apply to cable.

I’m close to being serious, that was inexcusable for an “news” program and the Saudi’s own an 7% stake in the company. That might grow in the wake of Rupert stepping down. The liberal kids may not be able to wrest control of the company from Lachlan or if they do may sell out for top dollar. Not inconceivable that a Saudi led consortium controls the company.

The RT is registered as a foreign agent, if this continues so should they. In the meantime add this to the shareholder lawsuits.

Thanks. Foreign ownership is an interesting issue. I am not versed in this area. I am assuming “broadcast license” is for a station and “common carrier license” is for a platform?

They use the term “US-organized entity”, so interestingly, it seems ok for a platform to show BBC or Al Jazeera at a 100% foreign ownership, but perhaps not Fox News at 26% foreign ownership. Clearly, the FCC can’t totally regulate BBC, but it’s still a fascinating area.

I don't know the answers to all of the questions but I know that there is currently a campaign to pressure a single Fox franchise in I believe Pittsburgh to have their license not renewed. That has apparently been identified as a pressure point, challenging the periodic license renewal applications for local franchises

Do you have a current link showing the Saudis own 7% of Fox?
The only mention of them 7% was from a wiki article from 2010.

There were many noting that they sold off large amounts in 2017..

I looked and they weren’t listed in the top 10 share holders and that list went down to 2%

So 2/3 of the outrage in the thread was completely wrong.
