Conversely, ain't no Easter without Good Friday. This too shall pass, and the sun will shine upon UF again.

(Personally, I'd like to see Fuchs drop the 'interim' from the title, and keep the helm indefinitely--and even take an active roll in *suggesting* his own successor--several years henceforth..).

Go ahead and tell us how it is not weird for ‘normal’ people to sit around thinking about transgenders all the time.

wow, if you knew just how red Collier County is you might be as shocked as I am that NDN published this and equally shocked that the Jax paper authored it

Seems like it came down to

    1. Pete Ricketts is rich AF
    2. Pete Ricketts got elected governor of Nebraska in 2015 which meant he was going to have to stop being governor in 2023 because of term limits. He needs somewhere to go after the governors mansion.
    3. Ben Sasse started his second Senate term in 2020 and was locked in til 2026. He was only 48 in 2020 and in a heavily Republican state was good to keep getting elected another 20+ years.
    4. Ron Desantis wants to be president. He needs money to be president.
    5. Ricketts tells Desantis he will support his presidential campaign if he helps him get into the Senate.
    6. Desantis brokers the UF job offer. Sasse is interested but is loyal to his people and doesn't want to leave them hanging, after all living in DC ain't free. Sasse is told he can just put them on UF payroll.
    7. Sasse accepts. Ricketts gets the Senate seat. Desantis gets Ricketts' cash. Sasse's staffers get no-show jobs. Quid pro quo.

Disagree. Guilt by association, just read the articles. Hopefully it is cured by a solid replacement hire.

What’s funny is you’re the one getting cooked in this thread. Look at the reactions to all of your posts. We all think you’re stupid. Even the conservatives.

But hey, keep tossing out the same lazy, boomer insults and defending this douche because he has an R next to his name and a dorky white guy haircut. It’s working well for you, Mr. non-UF graduate.

only issue here is not sure Patel and Heavener would have been willing to do this just for political reasons unless they also thought it was good for UF.

As the author of that Twitter thread pointed out, Sasse may not have even known he was part of that ruse (due to arrogance, basically)

It’s not like Sasse is Jim Jordan. He had a very good reputation as a good looking, well spoken, has jock vibes at a time football is down and Fuchs is seen as too much of a nerd to care about winning in sports, “principled” conservative who would occasionally stand against Trumpism and presented himself as being above the political fray. Lots of people talked themselves into him.

Seems possible that Heavener and Patel were/are blocking and tackling to prevent further board takeovers. The Sasse hire might have looked tolerable or manageable at the time.
Anyone who loves UF doesn't want to cede 50 years of progress to Tally's unproven ideas of shaping higher ed. But Rhonda plays dirty pool, so the path forward seems murky.

You’re referring to professors having multiple sources of income. Their UF salary probably maxes out at a little over $200,000. Sasse, on the other hand, is spending UF’s money.

O&B does no such thing. He posts on a variety of issues. I've never detected any inordinate focus on that topic.

But supposing he was obsessed thusly.

Might it not be odd? Peculiar? Strange? Concerning? Disconcerting? Freaky? Creepy? Disturbing? Noteworthy? Remarkable? Worth noting? Something that you felt compelled to point out?
Thst you couldn’t help but notice?

    ...

    Yet you went with 'weird'.

Guess your chicom antena would appear to be in perfect working order.

    ...huh... wei...urrrr uhhh.... interesting.

Sasse wasn't all bad, and while the spending seems exorbitant, perhaps self serving and unwarranted, his presidency wasn't horrible, and even had a few high profile shining moments, especially as Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, and several other schools who took up for Hamas sympathizers, and straight up condoned antisemitism, in order to coddle to the radical Left, got copious amounts of egg on their face

Our guy--Ben Sasse--came out strong, and very publicly, for the Jews, and in particular, for our Jewish students, leaving it crystal clear, that we, as a university, stood with our Jewish students, and against terrorism.

Now I'll be the first to confess that that position amounts to common sense. Alas, the academia lost its way, and one guy stood out at the anchor position of common sense, against a tsunami of stupidity that caused the ivy leaders yo lose their bearings, and brought a great deal of positive light to be shone on UF nationally--while he also took the occasion to publicly boast of our having the largest Jewish student population in the country (depositing even more good will in our cache with the Jewish community).

And btw, @Orange_and_Bluke is alright. He's having fun here. It's whst we do in the pig pen.

Sounds like it's you who is new to message board fights. A weak ass Sasse stan, a non-UF graduate, and you haven't even been here a decade.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sasse and his friends played a huge role in this. UF has been more aggressive than most other universities in enforcing the culture war crap DeSantis pushes through. And IIRC, faculty at Sasse's past university said he tried to push out people he felt weren't doing enough. (They also talked about him trying to enforce loyalty oaths, another fun thing he brought to UF!)

    "Wasn't all bad"...just mostly bad.

He has basically nothing to point to in terms of advancing the reputation or resources of the University of Florida. He bilked the school and left us with a national embarrassment. I'm all for supporting our Jewish students and alumni, but if that's all he can hang his hat on, he failed.

I'm sure they felt that doing the guvnrs bidding, especially this guvnr with no respect for rules or requirements, would be good for UF

First of all, I meant new to Too Hot.
I am a UF graduate and have two degrees.
Also I’m now considering a vote for Trump. Libbies like you deserve it.
    Thanks for the inspiration.
