That poster was me, and it was blocked as being “too political.” I don’t post much, but I have a source as good or better than anyone on here. He/she is involved in almost every important decision involving UF, including athletics. Sasse fooled everyone with his boy-next-door charm. His hire was not just political, and he and DeSantis do not like each other at all. Everything the Alligator wrote is true, and the Board of Trustees was livid.
It proved to be the mistake many of us were worried it would be. I hope they don't hire somebody worse. I appreciate you posting that information back then and returning now to confirm it.
How is a clueless buffoon who is solely a political appointee with no qualifications not a political discussion? I also do not believe that he was "forced out" considering the only people who could force him out were the ones who put in office and sanctioned his hiring of his buddies to meaningless posts for huge salaries and the moving of money all around. It would also be interesting to know where the money was funneled to that is unaccounted for. This is feeling like this hiring was all a set up to dump money from UF into someone's (DeSantis) presidential campaign through Sasse and his cronies. Why else would Hosseini and Patel hand pick literally the least qualified clown in the country to run one of the most elite public universities in America?
Much appreciated. Did desi like him when he was hired and Sasse failed to kiss the ring? Hard to see desi hand picked BOT choosing someone desi didn't like
the rest of the money didn’t go into some secret account. It was just more consultants. I’m not sure why the alligator couldn’t figure it out but the presidents office hired 3 other consultants at least that I’ve heard about. Pretty standard higher Ed consultants.
That’s the part I wasn’t sure about. The bot has not expressed to the surviving cabinet members that they were mad about the spending - at least according to my friend. I had heard that he and desantis were butting heads but that was on stuff like tuition and I didn’t know it was that serious. The chairman is not a very patient guy, so if the spending caught him by surprise I could see him losing his shit.
Generally speaking what's the point of a higher ed consultant? I can't wrap my mind around hiring somebody and then needing a bunch of consultants to get the job done correctly
A big part is market research. Universities don’t usually have the talent or resources to do market research, audience analytics, etc. I know at least one was helping out with the new campus up in Jacksonville that they’re trying to get off the ground. I think two did a external review of the central admin org structure. all things that a university just lacks the time, talent, or desire to manage internally. Edit- to be clear though most higher Ed consultants are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than McKinsey. Like in the tens or low hundreds of thousands per research line/request as compared to millions.
Well he didn’t fool the students who protested his hire. He did fool the useful idiots who smeared those students as unreasonable or unfair to him.
Yeah, you libbies think you're so great because you run almost every college and university and can promote your libbie values of research and learning but when the shoe is on the other foot and conservatives get a chance to run things and promote our conservative values of corruption and self-dealing, all you can do is cry. Hypocrisy much?
A former Republican senator hiring the elite management consulting firm that Chelsea Clinton, Mayor Pete and Susan Rice once worked for was really shaking things up man!
Its the point of hiring any management side consultant, they tell you to pay the administration more and cut jobs and have the remaining workers work more. And of course the consulting firm full of well credentialed college grads gets a big pay day too. As I said before, this is the 'circle of life' for elite institutions. Its how the Ivys do it, and all people want to talk about is turning UF into a Public Ivy. As I've said many times before Higher Ed is basically a real estate scam, with incidental research and learning.
The "facts" are not wrong, just incomplete. I am closer to this story than the journalist, but I'll just keep it at that. I contend more ignorance than grift. We need an experienced academic to run UF.
If you want to hire more people, hire people who Will actually be based in Gainesville whom people can see are actually doing things Aren't instantly the highest paid people in their departments Actually have a background and are experienced in the field of higher education.
Seems you're not as informed as you think. Bernie Machen is a conservative. Kent Fuchs is a conservative. Neither used our University as their personal piggy bank. This is a case where you're cool with a political hack basically stealing from your alma mater, only because he was a conservative.
We don't need more damn admin, they have nothing to do with education. This is the problem with chasing these bullshit rankings that mostly favor a "business of education" outlook.
admin has a much bigger impact on education than faculty like to admit. They bring in better instructional design resources, find better learning management systems, the good ones organize better processes in admissions and registration. Admin can be entrepreneurial in that they aggressively pursue new programs and opportunities that students want and faculty are too busy or self involved to pursue without motivation. They seek out corporate engagement and partnerships etc. admin is so important to a top flight academic experience. Faculty can’t do everything. The more admins in theory the less faculty have to do admin work.
