san francisco slavery reparations

    That Target is not too far from my house. I’m wondering how do you run up $1000 grocery bill at Target?

    Lord almighty, this is a bad take. The government used slave labor, it profited from slave labor, it enforced slavery, and then after slavery ended, it enforced a racial caste system that still hasn't fully been dismantled today. Hell, one could argue that various state governments "own" slaves even today. They just use the criminal legal system to assert that ownership.

    Sounds to me like both the woman and the loss prevention officer aren't playing with a full deck. He should have contacted the police and at minimum she would have ended up spending at least some time in a secure facility at government expense. Maybe the city where the incident occurred could inform her that rent for her accommodations was being paid through the reparations owed to her.
