San Francisco gay men’s choir takes aim at homophobe stereotypes.

The chant “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children” that sent the homophobes into hysterics was from a funny song by the choir mocking those homophobes. In true GOP fashion the right misinterpreted the song, and twisted it to meet their own hate and fear-filled agenda.

I’m very liberal on these matters (my wife’s sister has been in a committed same sex relationship for the past 30 years with a woman we simply adore), but any interest group-whether it be the NRA in Texas, or Catholic priests in Boston, or Nazis in Skokie, or handicapped people in California, just pick one, who think they are going to advance something, anything, other than vitriol by chanting “we’re coming for your children” has it completely and irrevocably 100% backwards.

And they are likely doing far more to hurt their acceptance among the general population than just about anything else they can do. Just leave kids out of it, especially under the current polarized climate. It’s patently stupid to make this about kids.

If I interpret correctly, imo ANY group singing/chanting they’re “coming for your children” would be unnerving for many parents.

Again people are missing the point of the song that was meant to poke fun at homophobes saying they’re going to convert their children to be more tolerant and fair. I’m not sure how parents would be threatened by children’s song about being tolerant and fair unless they’re raising them to be intolerant and unfair…..anti-woke if you prefer.

Regardless the death threats are an over the top reaction by homophobes.

Not a good way to gain acceptance no matter their intent.

I have friends that have a son living in LA. He’s gay and married to another man. Both are very successful business men and great guys.

He told me at a party at his parents home that flaming gay men make it difficult for them to gain acceptance. He pretty much despises the way they act and doesn’t think it’s natural, more like acting. This post reminded me of him and our conversation.

The rest of the lyric, though, is "we'll make them tolerant and fair." I don't think it's out of bounds to use the misguided (euphemism) message of the intolerant as a counter. Add the fact that they are suggesting a positive motive and not grooming.

I think they're probably beyond the point of seeking acceptance from those who refuse it. "Kumbuya" was never going to be effective. There are posters on this very board who acknowledge being in a culture "war."

Wasn’t this a thing about 6 months or a year ago, and already discussed in here?

Totally agree here. Even if it’s a joke - dumb.

Probably longer than that but so what? There isn’t an expiration date on discussion topics. The reason I posted it was because the chant discussed in another thread came from this song, and how it had nothing to do with grooming children like the right is claiming.

100% agree. It’s too bad you had to qualify your post with the mention of your sister-in-law, but I get it. Gotta watch your back with the progressive mafia.

I see your point, and understand what you’re saying, but I’m having a problem accepting the right’s outrage as being legitimate. The righties are always complaining some group is coming to take away something of theirs. “They’re coming for your guns, jobs, religion, money, cars, freedoms” and how they’re not going to let them. The accusations that they’re coming for your children is just one more thing added to their ridiculous list of things.

Except in this instance, there’s no accusation. It’s literally what they said.

So do you think their chanting was to say they’re going to groom the kids, or teach them to be fair and tolerant?

Probably not a good idea for them because it's too easy to grab the one line and ignore the rest about being tolerant and fair.
But, in all honesty, I doubt that is changes any minds. The folks who think drag queens are coming for our kids are already convinced.

Well if we would stop getting videos of drag queens dancing in front of kids, maybe people would stop being convinced they are coming for their kids.
