I watched Samford vs VMI last night. It reminded me why college basketball can be so much fun to watch. Samford won in overtime 100-99 on a Glover fadeaway, baseline jumper over VMI's 7' center with one second to go in the game. Glover had 26 points and 10 assists while committing only one turnover. He is a brilliant player, and Samford has a brilliant coach in Bucky McMillan. Samford is now 17-9 and is having its best season in the last 15 years. McMillan was coaching high school basketball at Mountain Brook only 2 seasons ago. I will find, hopefully, and post a separate 2 minute highlight video and a separate post-game interview with McMillan. I can't wait to hear from some of you about how much better Appleby and Jones are than Glover.
Shot 24 times and 6 threes when he is a 27% three point shooter. He’d be a perfect fit back on this team. Although he definitely had a better night than two games ago when he shot 24 times to get 18 points and launched 10 threes.
Kudos to Ques! I am very happy for him, as he seemed like a really good teammate and hard worker. I never heard a negative utterance. That said… your efforts to convince, while admirable, have some fundamental flaws. I’m sure you realize that you are entirely discounting Glover’s tenure at Florida, and instead opting to compare his Samford season to that of players facing significantly better competition night-in and night-out. Perhaps more reasonable would be to look at the sophomore season of both Glover and Tyree….. at Samford and Cleveland State, respectively. Allow me to do so…. Appleby: 17.2ppg 5.6 apg Ass/TO Ratio: 1.65:1 FG% .420. 3pt %: .389 FT %: .780 3.7 rebounds per game 1.4 steals per game Glover: 19.0 ppg 4.4 apg Ass/TO ratio: 1.76:1 FG %: .473 3Pt %: .272 FT %: .825 2.8 rebounds per game 1.3 steals per game For as much as you have heralded this incredible season he is having …. which he is …. is it individually better than that of Tyree’s sophomore year? Now, Glover’s team is having a much better season than did that of Tyree. But an argument can be crafted in either direction as to how that should be interpreted. Was Tyree hindered by inferior personnel? Did Ques elevate those around him? I suspect I know which tact you might take. Regardless, the individual statistics are as written above.
Its the equivalent of shooting 40% from the field inside of the 3pt line. That isn't horrific for most guards that primarily shoot from the outside, rather than getting higher percentage shots near the rim. Of course it would better to get up around 33% or better from 3 point land.
You just have to watch the games, my man. One guy is a leader and a winner. The other guy, unfortunately, isn’t.
level of competition is apples and oranges, so are all other comparisons. If TA was still at Cleveland State, we might be saying "I wish we had a PG like him".
Yes Glover is a very good player. What do you think his stats would be at Fl?. How many more wins? What do you think Appleby stats would be at Samford?
His coach said he was a great leader. Why do you say he's not i bet You did not watch 2 games of Cleveland St with Appleby. Yet you say he's not a leader. He would be having as good a year if at Samford as Glover but you or I have no way to prove that.
I don’t know what Glover’s and Appleby’s stats would be if they switched schools and each became the starting point guard at the other school. However, my guess is that if Glover was the UF point guard, the Gators would have beaten Oklahoma, Texas Southern, Maryland, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, which would give them a record of 21-5 and 8-5 in the SEC. Put Appleby at Samford, and my guess is that Samford which currently is 17-9, would have a losing record. Just one example, does anyone think that Samford would have beaten a healthy Ole Miss team on the road with Tyree as the point guard?
I only watched clips of Tyree at Cleveland State, but he looked exactly like he looks now. His mentality is that he is the guy who is going to make a play instead of being the guy who is going to get his teammates involved and let them make plays. Glover is the opposite of that. I have no problem with Tyree as a 2-guard. He’s just not a point guard.
Tyree is vocal. He’s a competitor. He’s just not a point guard. It’s not in his make up. He should be playing the 2. Glover is a true quarterback of his team. He gets everyone involved constantly throughout the game. He has turned the Samford team around. He has good stats, but he is way more than his stats.
100-99 was the final? Wow! An exciting, uptempo game with points scored. Must've been nice to watch. We've only scored 112 in our last 2 games combined.
It was an incredible game. I watched it as a replay on ESPN+. The 2 minute clip I posted will give you a little flavor plus the Glover plays in the clip are the type of plays he makes every single game. The VMI big man is unbelievable. He scored 39 points, I believe, and they came from down low and the 3-point line.
Tyree has hit some clutch shots including an exciting game winning three this season. I'm happy for Glover's success, but he transferred. He wasn't kicked off the team, he left. I'm more happy for him doing well at Samford than I am sad that he left. Same for Nembhard. I always root for former Gators. I don't think it was a great fit for either party at Florida.
We have had way too many players who were not good fits for Mike White’s Gator teams. You will be thankful I am sure, when we get a new coach who turns us back into an annual SEC title contender.
