Maybe Russia thought they would just walk in and take over everything in a few weeks and didn't want a bunch of damaged infrastructure to deal with. That plan didn't work out so well.

There is more evidence for the existence of viruses than there is evidence that the explosion was caused by Ukrainian rather than Russian rockets :)

I don’t doubt that Russia *hoped* that Zelensky would capitulate early. Seems that both parties were close to an agreement, in March, until BoJo the Clown went to meddling.

At this point only you and Sean Penn are the only people who believe it was a Russian missile.

I've been drawing Great War comparisons in my head since before the invasion. This tickles another thought I've been having: Russia's haphazard bombing of Ukranian infrastruction and civilian target is comparable to Germany's decision's to re-open unrestricted u-boat warfare in 1917. They're both moves of desperation and they both are too uncontrollable to keep the scope of the conflict in check. That was obviously a fateful decision for Germany 100 years ago...

Russia haphazardly firing million dollar precision missiles on apartment buildings. Also, zoo animals.

Actually Zelensky is still saying Russia fired it. Not sure why he continues to lie about it. Perhaps he sees another opportunity to fleece the US for a few billion more dollars.

I thought the AP is reporting these were likely Ukrainian surface to air missiles? Not really a huge deal if so, but is that not what they are reporting?

Zelensky probably refuses to admit the reality because it's embarrassing. I assume from your second sentence that you believe that the US should have acquiesced to Putin's invasion of Ukraine thus saving the US billions of dollars in aid. Marjorie Taylor Greene has already indicated that she is likely to propose legislation cutting off all US aid to Ukraine and I wouldn't be surprised if the former president suggests the same as part of his "America first" agenda.

I don’t think Zelensky is “lying” about it. It is what believes for the moment. Granted, it is what he wants to believe, so he keys in on the evidence that supports his belief and equivocates on the evidence that does not. This makes him no different than most of the people on this board. One piece of evidence that supports Zelensky’s position is the size of the crater and blast radius. His professional air defenders are no doubt telling him that the warhead on an air defense missile is not capable of that kind of explosive yield (because it does not to be to take out enemy aircraft or missiles). Let them do a full investigation, and we will see what the truth is (I hope). For the moment, NATO is saying it tracked the trajectory coming from Ukraine, so until more evidence that contradicts that comes in, that is what I believe.
