What a crock........I guess a ban doesn't really mean a ban these days......but if this had happened to the USA.....it'd be different... A doping punishment changes a country’s official name but little else about its Olympic experience. N.Y. Times: Russia Is Banned, Yet It’s Everywhere at the Games
It's frustrating. Russia doesn't bring any significant amount of revenue, either. I don't understand why the IOC caved so badly. But as for the USA, I think we could do much worse and still get little punishment. At this point, with TV and advertising licenses and all that, we are largely funding the Olympics.
My wife asked the same thing last night. It's a farce designating them "Russian Olympic Committee" when the announcers all just say "Russia."
In other news, Vladimir Putin has been named the Russian Olympic Committee President, replacing Stanislav Pozdnyakov, who died mysteriously after accepting a shot of vodka from an unknown person in a yellow HAZMAT suit. In his first action as ROC President, Putin visited the gold medal-winning men's and women's ROC gymnastics teams. He asked if he could see one of the men's medals. When he held it, he said, "I could wipe out a whole neighborhood with one of these," and stuffed it in his pocket before leaving.
Olympic committee isnt going to properly sanction the country in red just like the NCAA isnt going to sanction the football team in red
