    What's up ya'll.

I think there is some misunderstanding (perhaps on my part, too) on how many "seniors" we have, and really on all player classification.

So the most recent depth chart shows very few literal seniors, and illustrates that we're "young". However, when you look at the official roster, there is an asterisk on the top left stating "Class listed as players taking COVID year". So a RS sophomore is really on his 4th year, not 3rd.

2022 Football Roster - Florida Gators

As far as I know (and I'm 99% certain of this), no team can be over 85 scholly's anymore. I believe you could last year to accommodate for the covid season?

If that is the case, then regardless of the current classification, we are going to see quite a number of players not coming back. I am not suggesting this will be all transfers, but not everyone will come back due to the 85 limit.

Current Roster - Scholly #: 82 (I already removed Cox and Wilcoxson)
    Less: "current Seniors" 4
    Plus: Incoming Class. 30
    Total on Scholly 108

According to today's recruiting mailbag story, we're going to take about 30 this class...so that's 108 on scholly...which means 23 players are not coming back, and that's regardless of class classification.

That is an enormous roster churn, and that doesn't even get into the possibility of losing others.

Anyways, thought this would be a good discussion topic....

Yes, guys will be “encouraged” to get playing time elsewhere.

On a related note, it was interesting to hear how Billy Donovan tried to push Chandler Parsons out and had ASU already lined up for him as a destination back in the day.

I will be surprised if we sign a class of 30. Maybe we finish ESD with 22ish. The rest would have to come from the portal?

I went to a portal website that list the players in the portal by year.
Since 2018 UF had 66 players in the portal. This counts the player that came in and left. These numbers do not include who came in or exited since the start of this season. 22 players came into the Gators via the portal. However, 44 players exited. This means our net totals for the portal (in this time period) is a minus 22 players. Basically, in the prior four season we lost a entire recruiting class. This minus 22 does not include the players who used their eligibility, left due to injury/grades/issues, left for a early start in the NFL, or left to go to another school without the portal.

HBC Napier has his work cut out for him keeping valuable players, moving some players out, getting good players in via the portal, and having a talented 2023 recruiting class.

Restocking the Gator future Rosters is going to take at least three or more seasons.

Looks like he just got passed up...He got a lot of carries early and his YPC were far lower than the others.

I think the bigger issue is the massive amount of recruiting "misses" the last 5 years (except the true freshmen - CBN's first class). It's not like the transfers were all-conference players...most were misses (not all, of course).

We're playing our top 5 rated true freshmen - and I believe 4 committed after Napier took the job - so that's an early sign of being able to identify talent.

Also, our 2 best offensive players are Johnson and O Cyrus, both UL transfers. Let that sink in for a minute. Our roster is just loaded with recruiting misses.

This imminent roster turnover is needed.

Is UF a 1 year renewable scholarship program or a 4yr guaranteed scholarship program?

We all know this has to happen. I just feel sorry for those players who wanted to be Gators but have to move on.

It amazes me that Florida has so much trouble putting great recruiting class together. For years and years we had classes filled with recruits who just plain wanted to go play for the Gators. With all f the new rules it has become a mercenary game including money, playing time and no real loyalty. I hope BN is building a firm foundation for success much like UT has done.

It was never guaranteed - it was all semantics. It was a 4 year scholarship with annual reviews, basically.

I’m not terribly worried that we will have an exodus of players leaving. Anyone on this roster can be replaced

The issue with Wright is he isn't a physical enough back. He's great in the open field but he lacks vision and explosiveness. 8 games into the season, he has just 175 yards rushing with his longest run at a measly 14 yards, by far the shortest among all backs by a wide margin. Even in limited production, Lingard's longest run is 20 yards.

I believe you are right. Just about all of football scholarships are like this. They just aren’t portrayed like that.
