Republicans haven’t won the popular vote since at least what… 2000 (exception 2004)? How could Desantis, a Republican, represent the majority? The Republican Party on a national level is largely propped up by the electoral college in Presidential elections, and by disproportionate representation in The Senate, due to each State having 2 Senators regardless of population.

I didn’t say Ron repped the majority. Andy said he wanted a candidate who represented the majority of Americans. Neither party has that. The country is pretty much split in half. You’re mistaken if you think otherwise.

I am not sure that DeSantis runs if Trump runs. DeSantis has set himself up spectacularly, but if he goes head to head against Trump in the primary, he may ruin any chance of ever running again just because Trump has a way of making his opposition eat themselves alive, or stoop down to his level.

I agree. RD is young & it is probably in his best interest to wait.

Or have Trump convinced that he shouldn't run again.

If the ticket is clear, he has momentum on his side.

    I do believe that's a risk.
I also think an alternative possibility is that RD punches the bully in the mouth and the bully who isnt accustomed to being punched in said mouth responds much as one would expect said bully to respond.

His most loyal followers see him as brazenly strong and bulletproof. If that persona starts taking dents and wounds it could be a whole new ballgame.

Punch him in the mouth. Knock him down. Jump on him. Keep punching.

I just don't understand where these people are coming from that want Trump to run again.

I don't personally know a single Republican who wants that to happen. If DeSantis's performance in Florida paired with the way Trump left the Presidency isn't enough to sway your vote already, I don't know what is.

Ronnie just needs to convince Donnie to support Ronnie as the pub candidate in exchange for a presidential pardon. But he has to make Donnie think it was Donnie's idea.

I was jabbering with some relatives the other day and he was brought up. I thought the good analogy is he is our version of Boris Yeltsin. If you recall, he was the mayor of Moscow when the USSR fell and Gorbachev was removed. He was not the best world leader but he was the right man at the right time. I see Ron in the same light.

I didnt take it that way... And I might add that this is why many people avoid TH. Murph isnt a confrontational poster.

I think his point is valid from a conservative side. We are losing ground and that should be our focus. To keep depending on the EC may be a fools errand in the long run.

Yet you'll be the first poster talking about how an election outcome means something in terms of popular will

This is why it’s hard to talk to people these days. Everything is a punchline. Everything is confrontational. I merely stated why I believe Republicans still have power today, in the context of national identity politics. Your response included “butthurt” and “tough cookies”. Smh.

I treat you and @Orange_and_Bluke with respect at all times.
