He has unequivocally stated he will not sign a nationwide ban. That reduces some but not all of the ambiguity
Getting back to the liberty university thing. Not only was it founded by an evangelical charlatan but until recently it was being run by his son who has some interesting sexual peccadilloes.
None really. And he almost never tells the truth. But I'm glad that a questioner pinned him down on that obvious gap and made him go on record. Parenthetically, the fact that the movement is not attacking him suggests that they do not believe him, possibly because of private assurances. We will see if there is pushback now. If none, that will be strongly suggestive that they know he is not being truthful
He has no core beliefs other than his self interest. He would do what ever benefited him the most. Starting with bribes
Dan, that’s the guilt by association fallacy. What you think of Falwell and his son is totally irrelevant to the research that Habermas has done. If you don’t like Habermas because he’s at Liberty, there are other scholars who provide almost the same facts surrounding the resurrection. If you are interested, here is a talk by William Lane Craig on evidence for the resurrection, given at a Bible and Beer Consortium event. I was at this talk in Dallas some years ago. ✝ | Defenders Easter Special: Is There Evidence That Jesus Rose From The Dead?
Guilt by association fallacy? He is not at a reputable institution. If he was a professor of theology at trump university wouldn’t you think that would have something to do with his credibility. And William lane Craig is once again a theologian and an apologist not a historian. I think we are starting to see a pattern forming.
Dr Albert Schweitzer wrote the quest for the historical Jesus published in 1906. I don’t think anyone has done any better than him. He concluded there was no evidence and that lack of evidence proved he was god. After reading that I became an atheist.
The evangelical fruitloop rubes are wailing with their discontent with the GOP. This is likely the beginning of the end of their ungodly influence over the body politic. Maybe they'll go back to being normal people and Christian's once their fever breaks. 'Lied to us for decades': Christian conservative uncorks Biblical rant on GOP
Of course. Abortion is murder was an easy position when you could hide behind Roe. Trump is not at all bashful about making it clear that he will trade dead babies for votes & that the GOP should do the same. It's all about winning.
The history of the issue is interesting. The movement really started politicizing around race, but that issue wasn't going to last as an objection to changing social orders. So...enter abortion. A lot of evangelicals had no real issue with abortion in the middle of the 20th century. They started having a problem with it right about the time of Roe. If you look at a lot of the speeches from the early days of the politization of the evangelical movement on the topic of abortion, it had just as much to do with the notion of upsetting the social order, in which women were supposed to get married and pop out kids, far more than about "murder."
There's a great Cocaine & Rhinestones episode about why The Pill by Loretta Lynn was banned & it was not b/c it was about birth control (there were many country tunes about birth control & abortion). It was b/c the song was about sexual freedom (even though the freedom she sings about is within marriage). Women singing about sex for fun got a lot of folks spectacles foggy.
If Christianity was the priority for Evangelicals they would have been more in for someone the likes of a Pence. A practicing Christian, pious man & married to the same woman for 40 yrs. Instead Evangelicals blindly follow and fully support Trump.
Republicans say Trump is more of a ‘person of faith’ than Biden, Pence Former Vice President Mike Pence is a born-again, evangelical Christian who roots his political ideology in his faith and frequently quotes the Bible on the campaign trail. President Joe Biden is, by all accounts, a devout Catholic and attends mass virtually every week. But according to a recent poll, more Republicans view former President Donald Trump as a “person of faith” than they do Biden, Pence or any other 2024 GOP presidential hopeful. The poll, from the firm HarrisX and the Salt Lake City-based Deseret News, found 53% of Republican voters said Trump was a person of faith, compared to 52% who said the same of Pence. Only 23% of Republican voters agreed it was an accurate descriptor of Biden, a sentiment supported by 63% of Democrats and 33% of independents.
It's pretty insane. I had the distinct displeasure of driving all the way across Kansas twice in the last 5 days. Not kidding, about half the billboards are just Jesus pics. There were a lot of homemade huge Trump signs & a lot of both homemade & commercial anti-abortion signs. 'ats some stupidity. 1 of my favs. Kill Relativism Not Babies. (I guess the "artist" thinks Jesus was 3 ft tall.)
Whoa. I found mention of it. I noticed it was on both sides of the road, despite going 90....on the way back when I had nothing illegal. driving dirty 'cross Kansas is sketch.
Phatgator what do you disagree with in my post? That Albert Schweitzer totally nailed the best argument for jesuses godhood or that its emptiness left me an atheist. The second point is factual and can’t be argued. As to the first, have you read Schweitzer? I found the translation into English so well written but his conclusion so vacuous that I learned German so I could make sure it wasn’t an error. (Well that and I didn’t get that nietsche wasn’t serious in his ubermensch diatribe.
