Been a busy week for the obituary writers. Ugh, pancreatic cancer. Rep Jackson will leave her family devastated and the Democrats another vote short. Republican Laura Loomer leaves her thoughts fresh from the GOP convention.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who served in Congress for nearly three decades, has died at the age of 74, her family announced Friday evening.

“Today, with incredible grief for our loss yet deep gratitude for the life she shared with us, we announce the passing of United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of the 18th Congressional District of Texas,” her family wrote in a statement shared to her account on X.

Her family did not specify a cause of death, but the news comes just over one month after the Congresswoman revealed that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was undergoing treatment.

Born in Queens, New York, Jackson Lee graduated from Yale University in 1972 and the University of Virginia School of Law in 1975. In 1987, after she had moved to Houston, she was appointed as a municipal judge for the city by Kathy Whitmire. In 1989, Jackson Lee was elected to the Houston City Council. She served in the office until 1994 when she began a campaign for Congress. In the Democratic primary, she defeated incumbent Craig Washington and went on to easily win the general election and serve for 30 years until her passing.

I believe God wants to be reunited with all of us regardless of our time on Earth. I hope her family find solace in the work she did for others and positive intentions.

Easy to understand why Loomer was banned from Twitter- until Musk bought it anyway. What a completely vile “person”.

Yep. There were plenty of things to criticize Sheila Jackson for as a member of Congress (Politico ranked her as the single worst member of Congress to work for pretty much the entire time she was in the House and Washingtonian named her “the meanest member of the Democratic caucus”), but, even if you wanted to criticize her and even if you wanted to pick her death announcement as the time to do it, it’s a step way too far to call her stupid or a “ghetto bitch” and say good riddance about her death on Twitter.

I read tweets like that and say its a good thing I'm not God. Ms. Loomer wouldn't be thrilled with the outcome. Lets just say i would use my powers to turn bad tweets into irony.

    RIP to Ms. Jackson

I believe that’s accurate. It’s generally symptom free until it’s too late.

Wasn't she the Congresswoman who always wanted to be on the aisle for the State of the Union to get her picture with the President?

Cancer is awful but Heart Disease has the highest mortality rate.

There is so much out there to address Heart Disease as well. Unfortunately cancer is just a problem with some answers but not like what we can do for Heart Disease.

    Cancer sucks!

When MAGAts look at prominent African-Americans, all they see is "ghetto" and "low IQ." The fact that she graduated from Yale and UVa Law School is irrelevant.

Loomer is squarely in the middle of the MAGAt movement, not an outlier.

Rush was a bully and punched down and comes nearer to deserving scorn than Lee. Calling a newly dead Congresswoman Ghetto Bitch” because of political differences is the kind of thing Rush did for 3 hours a day. They are similar in that. Congresswoman Lee didn’t do that and is far less deserving than Rush and Looney Loomer.

"You guys" seems unfair. Did @ursidman celebrate Rush's death? Doesnt seem like his style at all.

The ones who did though should sit this out.
