I have had the privilege of working in non profit management for 15 years. The last 8 plus with Habitat. Had the honor of hearing him speak at our global conference. He worked on our houses until very late in life.
He didn't found our organization, but he may well have established it into what it is.

    He will be greatly missed.

The people of Iran won't miss Carter. He should have apologized for what he did to them.

Carter undermined the Shah and paved the way for Ayatollah Khomeini to seize power. I bet every Democrat posting at Too Hot would have supported those who destabilized the Shah. How'd that work out?

When you have a tribal/multicultural country full of people who secretly want to spill each other's blood authoritarian measures will be needed to hold the country together. This is a hard concept for Democrats to grasp.

The immigration policy Democrats support for America is one that makes America more multicultural, which is a recipe for disaster.

America has always been multicultural, from its very inception. Try studying the history of St. Augustine or New Orleans as examples.

Learning to co-exist with others is NOT a recipe for disaster. Successful co-existence embodies principles of respect, non-aggression, equality and communication, among other ideas.

It's unclear why you believe so intensely that a multicultural society is a bad thing. Authoritarian crackdowns as you're suggesting do not fare well historically, and we surely don't want that in America -- Trump / MAGA or no Trump / MAGA.

Jimmy Carter was an exemplary human being. Flawed, as we all are, but wanting to make the world a better place. We shall honor that in the days ahead.

If you have a safety issue with a nuclear reactor, you want a US Navy nuclear expert working on it. Period.

This was a fact. It was the 1950s though and nuclear power was new. Carter said his pee was radioactive for months afterward.

A look back at a decision that didn't help him politically. An issue that still resonates today ...

These decisions on refugees weren’t popular. Jimmy Carter made them anyway

JC would have been an excellent choice for Prez in 1992. Geo-politically, we made the wrong pick. Bush Sr would have done a much better job positioning the US and the world through the 90s, IMO.

Also just want to say that Carter wasn't just a genuinly awesome human, he was a total badass:

77 years is a remarkable achievement. Congrats to the Carters for that. RIP

He was without a doubt the best former President this country has had in it's history.

A man that many should strive to emulate!

Honest, hard working, intelligent, giving, caring, and decent! A combo that is exceedingly rare.

Add a 77 year marriage that he was not afraid to admit her saying yes was his biggest accomplishment in life is extraordinary! In my work with hospice patients I continue to be amazed at the couples married 50+ years but the longest so far has been 70. To make it to 77---WOW!!!!

Worked at Port Panama City for minimum wage on weekdays the summer after high school. Remember unloading many many semi trailers of peanuts from Carter Farms/Carter Warehouse from Plains, GA. Took a bag tag or two home but can’t find them now. Threw hundreds if not a couple thousand 110-pound bags of presidential peanuts when I was in good enough shape to do it. RIP and enjoy your eternal peace, Mr. President.

Iran was our ally before Jimmy Carter but the Shah didn't run the country along strict ACLU guidelines so he had to go

Four or five years ago, I was driving around town and NPR was playing part of an interview Carter did with Fresh Air in the '90s. He was talking about losing his first bid for governor of Georgia. How he was questioning his faith and his purpose. I'm not the least bit religious, but the way he described his journey with his faith was captivating. When I got where I was going, I sat in the parking lot and listened to the rest of it.

I think that is the beauty here.
The Christian faith Isn't a "religion" as many have made it out to be, at least not 9f practiced as Jesu intended.

Religion is made out as rules, regulations and rituals.Bit He believed something far different.

It should really be a lifestyle.

James 1:27 says that pure and undefiled religion is "looking after widows and orphans during their distress".

Jimmy Carter lived out a TRUE Christian LIFESTYLE. You don't see him caught up in the religious rituals that have bogged us down.

Jesus "broke" the Sabbath to help those in need.

Jesus befriended prostitutes and thieves to help them on their journey.

Jesus was referred to as a good shepherd that would leave the 99 obedient sheep to save the one straying from the herd.

    Jimmy Carter did that.
Jimmy Carter loved people first and foremost.

His "religion" was pure and undefiled as James 1:27 says. My guess is his rituals weren't as important, and thats how it should be.

The Carter administration also gave support to Pol Pot. Liberals have no enemies on the political left.

Your diversity analysis is naive. I value realism over idealism.

In 2004 (at the age 85) former West German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt said:
“…that the problems resulting from the influx of mostly Turkish Gastarbeiter, or guest workers, had been neglected in Germany and the rest of Europe. They could be overcome only by authoritarian governments, he added, naming Singapore as an example.” [Turkish workers a mistake, claims Schmidt, by Hannah Cleaver, November 25, 2004]

    Roman empire
    Byzantine empire
    Ottoman empire
    Habsburgs domain
    Romanoffs domain

The above diverse coalitions could only be held together by authoritarian rule.

Syria, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Somalia. Too diverse to be functioning democracies.

One of the problems you liberals have when it comes to immigration policy is you never pause to ask yourselves, "What if we're wrong?"

How's the ethnic/language diversity in Ukraine working out? Diversity can come in the form of differences in language, race, religion, ethnicityand so on.

Has diversity improved the life of Germans? What about that Saudi national that killed 5 and wounded 200? Look at what migration has done to the UK, Sweden, France etc.

Israel wants to stay as Jewish as possible. Doesn't give DNA tests to prospective new citizens? As PM Rabin po8nted out, Israel needed to keep the percent of Jews at 80% or higher or their would be trouble.

    Amen ~ thank you, Tilly

Jimmy Carter made errors during his presidency as all our presidents have during their respective terms, but never - before or since Carter - has there been a man with more integrity, or of such noble intent as the plainsman peanut farmer from Georgia. RIP Jimmuh Cahtuh.
