He’s just trying to get his daily steps in. What good is it to take 4 100% steps to get to the other side?!?!

Interesting that he's on preferred walk-on status with UF. No problem. I think he'll rake in NIL money and a scholarship won't be a deal-breaker as long as we can show him he'll be practicing against future NBA bigs.

I saw this guy at Publix in Bradenton. His sheer size is overwhelming! He will take up crazy space in the lane!

Fawcett has some good commentary on Rioux on his latest podcast. His tape review….says that in the time in takes Rioux to sprint down the court, most guards could lap him once if not twice. It just takes him a long time to get going.

also mentioned how Rioux could in no way play Goldens standard defense (switching off high ball screens) due to his lack of mobility at this time and since Golden never has played zone defense, isn’t sure how Rioux could be used. On offense it takes him 8 seconds on average to get from one end of the court to the other so you lose nearly 1/3 of the shot clock every possession or play 4 on 5.

fawcett believes Rioux will need lots of time to develop physically to become more mobile - Zach Edey was stiff and immobile as a freshman when they saw him out at PK80 years ago and was able to develop so there is hope for Rioux. But done expect much if anything from him for some time outside of occasional garbage time duty.

I would agree with all of this from the videos I have seen. He has a long way to go to be a meaningful contributor.

It actually takes Rioux a little less than 5 seconds to get from one end of the court to the other. I’ve timed it.

I am not joking on this one. I found footage of Rioux on YouTube and timed him running from one end of the court to the other. His real problem is his inability to move laterally in the half court offense and defense and his slow reaction time.

his entire S&C summer should be spent developing lower body explosiveness and agility...needs to work on quick-twitch muscle development
He just turned 18 and learning how to adjust to being 7'7. I think by 20 we should (hopefully) see a marked improvement

Ironically, in the nfl anyway and maybe college too, that’s against the rules and called goaltending.

Aside from Rioux, I’d be stunned if TG does not incorporate some zone defense going forward. He must know that our inability to run different defensive schemes hurt us this year both on defense as well as on offense due to unfamiliarity with attacking zone.

I expect this to change fast.

It takes more hustle to play a quality zone defense than it does to play a quality man to man defense. Our hustle on defense this past season sucked.

Zone takes a whole lot more familiarity and practice than man. With so many new faces, my guess is TG decided to focus on offense and stick with man to man. With more starters returning, hopefully there will be more time to implement zone D.
