I’ve advocated for a while that the party system is no longer left vs right but elites vs common man.
This song plays to that. The common man is nothing but cattle for the elites. Farm animals to bred, fed, and used for their own personal gain.
They keep us “happy” by making us think it’s a tribal team thing. Score those points, cheer your team on, wave your colors.. all while feeding the machine with your blood sweat and tears.

Can’t tell if you mean that. I hate to admit it but I tend to agree with Gator_lawyer that the musicality isn’t to write home about. I do like the sentiment/message though, even if imperfect. The level of musical talent is complementary to the folk music protest genre, though, if that is actually a thing. Shoot, anyone that plays a dobro like Skynyrd’s Curtis Loew can’t be all bad. Now, I have opened the door for you guys to complain about the fact that Skynyrd just made up ol’ Mr. Loew as a concocted addition of color to their song.

Nothing too objectionable about the song in question aside from the fact that it's a a crappy song with cliched lyrics and poor production. Let the assholes have their music. It's not going to play on any station or platform I listen to.

Why assholes? Serious question. Is it because of the type of music? The lyrics? What brings you to the conclusion that those that like this song are assholes?
Can we jump to similar conclusions about any genre of music?

Another all inclusive definitive statement made regarding a group of people and making negative assumptions and insults towards that group.

If someone you thought sucked and was aggressively uncool told you to check something out, would you be like "sure, right away!"

Oh, so I have comprehension problems? I perfectly understood your intent. I was simply pointing out how poorly you presented your position. If you want to be taken seriously, then don't hyperbolize or inject societal mantras where not necessary. Have a great weekend.

Until the Supreme Court un-does the "right" of corporations and wealthy to directly buy and sell politicians, none of what you suggest means a damned thing.

Hell no! It's like family values: most folks just give lip service to them and don't give a damn about the plight of the common man. Hell, the common man had to fight like hell just to have decent wages. To me, the lyrics are vacuous garbage.

I think this is a pretty fair take. If true about the 8mil, he probably turned it down because he's suffering mental health issues & abuses alcohol.

We should err on the side of not taking his lyrics too literally, but ntl, his taking aim at folks on welfare and being obese is the kind of divisiveness he decries, ntm, are these folks not basically fellow victims of the man?

I have a friend who was at one time senior aid to the Senate banking committee. When I asked him about term limits, he replied that term limits would move us into a party machine system. He said it takes a term just learn how things work in Congress. The Machine would takeover, plug in their candidates, write the legislation for them, and give it to them to present.

I like your solution better. Get rid of bad actors, and vote in good ones.

Ultimately, I don't think its really a protest song if the people who are basically responsible for immiserating the working class (or a the very least aiding and abetting) are like "this is a great song that needs to be heard."

Problem now is most of the folks now do nothing but fund raise. Half their staffers do the same. They then have a few folks who work to keep the system working.

    It is all marketing BS.
