Eh… I don’t know…. It was Trump and republicans that expanded the military budget instead of “taking care of our own”. Biden is just giving some of it Ukraine, which is the right call.
Heard the song for the first time finally. I liked it. Granted I also listen to folksy Americana shit on the regular. He's a good songwriter. Hard to tell if he has musical chops from this song though.
I can say the same thing about my relatives. All my surviving relatives are "good and decent people" but racist to the bone. All my relatives who are no longer with us are, I assume, in some nice white heaven somewhere. Or where there are clouds for "white" people and clouds for "colored" people. IOW the ideal MAGA heaven, i.e. Make Heaven Great Again.
It happens here all the time. There are people who mock religious faith for instance, even in conversations that have nothing to do with race or acceptance. I know you arent here as often as the other boards, but I can assure you it's true. I am talking about people that the reasonable liberal posters will call out.
My thoughts exactly. It’s in my general wheelhouse. It’s a good song and I like his voice from what I’ve heard.
I’m not a big fan of the broad brush use of the term racism these days. I’m not sure ignorance and racism overlap completely. If somebody thinks AA or CRT is bad, that doesn’t necessarily make them racist. It may be a real defensible ideological belief, it may be ignorance or in some cases it may be racism.
ditto. No comparison with the Aldean tripe & I mean that independent of content/theme. I'd heard it prior to this thread & liked it.
I consider myself center left, but I’ve come to the conclusion that those on the left are more intolerant of those on the right in real life. Those on the right ramble all day long about liberals but generally on a one to one basis they are more accepting of any particular individual. I have numerous times read accounts where a liberal feels like they have a moral struggle if even associating with somebody on the right. To a degree when it comes to MAGA types I sometimes have the same instinct myself.
Nothing wrong with the song. A lot of people are not happy with some things that are happening in this country and the song reflects that. Not sure why there are 10 pages of threads talking about Republican vs Democrats or Blacks vs Whites when people from all four groups agree with a lot of the words in the song.
Wow, learn something new about myself every day. Seriously, lots of ridiculous claims are made on Too Hot, but this one has to be pretty high up there. You can trace alt-country back to the Byrds, Gram Parsons ... But here's one quick primer Best Alt.Country Musicians: 9 Essential Artists
But back to the song. A couple of headlines have been posted about this. Anthony seems like a really decent guy. CNN's story: Oliver Anthony says he 'hates' seeing his song 'Rich Men North of Richmond' be 'weaponized' | CNN Oliver Anthony laughs at song's debate moment, hits conservatives for saying he's one of them: 'Aggravating'
I saw Lucinda Williams open for the Drive By Truckers a couple years back. She came back out for their encore and they ripped Neil Young’s rockin in the free world together. Good stuff.
she’s great. Because she’s got such an excellent and instantly recognizable voice, it’s easy to forget what a superb songwriter she is.
Since a lot of posters seem to dig this type of music I'd love some suggestions of lesser known bands. On my Playlist at the moment Caamp Sons of the East Fruition The 502s Pixie and the PartyGrass Boys
