RFK Jr. drops Democratic presidential bid, re-enters 2024 race as independent (msn.com)

"I'm here to declare myself an independent candidate for president of the United States," he told a crowd of supporters in Philadelphia. "But that's not all − I'm here to join you in making a new Declaration of Independence for our entire nation."

Kennedy said he didn't make the decision lightly, explaining that it's painful for him to let go of his family's longtime party.

"I've come here today to declare our independence from the tyranny of corruption, which robs us of affordable lives, our belief in the future and our respect for each other. But to do that, I must first declare my own independence, independence from the Democratic Party," he added.

The move makes Kennedy the second major third-party candidate running for president in 2024, alongside Cornel West, a progressive activist and scholar.

This is great news, the left has nobody to blame but themselves.

You should take a look at the other RFK thread where I posted the reasoning for the Trump's team plan to attack RFK because they are afraid that he will pull Trump votes. Soon after his election the RNC began to attack him. Why do you think that is?

The GOP never learns the lesson from 2016. When you create a monster, it eventually gets out the cage you think you can keep it in forever.

Me too, except I hope he pulls 33.3%, Trump 33.3%, and Biden 33.3%. Our government is already in shambles between a President who can't complete a rational thought and a congress that voluntarily un-elects the third in line to the presidency, and can't figure out how to fund the government.

Everybody better study up on how the Presidential election is settled if no one person gets the majority of the votes in the Electoral College. It will be interesting.

When you write this, I assume you mean “This is great news for my side.” Posters often leave out this qualifier, seemingly conflating their own viewpoint with reality. Certainly not everyone is going to agree with you here.

My first thought was that you're right. But I don't know. Don't you think there are Republicans who don't like either guy, too?

No, I think republicans like him but the majority will still vote party line. I think he could pull enough to cause issue for Biden

The majority of both sides will still vote the party line.
He's certainly been campaigning more to attract Republican voters than Democratic ones.

When it comes right down it, I think most Dems will vote Biden if they are convinced a vote for Kennedy would give Trump the White House. Even those that don't like Biden voted for him because they loathe Trump. And if Biden can get the message out a vote for Kennedy is a vote for Trump, I believe that will resonate.

Meanwhile, the anti-vaccine side of the R party, and anti-Trumpers who never want to vote for Trump, but can't vote for Biden, will have an option in Kennedy.

Tough to say how much pull from either side Kennedy might have this far out.

He'll pull a far amount from Biden, not much from republicans

Said it in the other thread. Literally the only people I have ever heard mention RFK in my life are Republicans and Republican media. Maybe he pulls some independent votes.

RFK Jr. will not receive electoral votes. Possible exception: a Republican faithless elector. But no area of the country is going to vote for him.
