Wonder if this story is true. Biden calls yesterday to thank him and his CO for their excellent work pulling people out of the mess, then when interviewed he talks about how he is getting pushed out of the coast guard in next 60 days because he didn’t get the vaccine. Is that really still a thing ?

Regardless of anyones previous stance on specifically the Covid vaccine, pro or con….. with the evolution of what we now know about this virus and it’s vaccine(s), it’s a shame to run out excellent personnel based on old info. Lobotomies and burning witches used to be Considered necessary too. Jmho

Again, nothing new here. Dude would be getting the same exact treatment if he refused the measles vaccine. It’s his choice. Nobody is running him out.

I know the first thing I ask anyone who saves me from drowning is to show me their vaccination papers. When you're in the military, you're a guinea pig. That's just a fact.

I understand your point, and my counterpoint is that what we know about Covid and it’s associated vaccine has changed dramatically in last 2 years. What we know about measles and it’s associated vaccine has not. The policy made sense as to not jeopardize an entire ship, squadron, battalion etc. because it was thought the vaccine would prevent spread, but now we know that wasn’t accurate and that initial sweeping policy doesn’t reflect current data. I’m not anti. I got the J&J. Based on what we now know about Covid 19, it just doesn’t match running out highly skilled personnel such as a rescue swimmer. Again just my opinion.

He needs to start his own Coast Guard with his own rules.

Typical govt BS, rather lose good people over a worthless vaccine.

Yeah, and everyone needs to do that same thing when they refuse to become experimental vaccine dummies.

I think it is ridiculous for such a person to refuse a vax, but at this point I wouldn’t care if the requirement were loosened given where we are. I hate for good military personnel to lose their jobs over this. Having said that, if you make exceptions here, what exceptions are going to be made in the future?

Perhaps put it back in the military’s hands and let them decide if it should be required or not.

i never made the argument about vaccine and military. My point was what we now know about the virus and it’s associated vaccine(s) is vastly different than what was thought when this policy was put into place. I understood and agreed with the initial policy and maintaining readiness for effective fighting force, but again it’s very different now and running out anyone, especially personnel such a rescue swimmer doesn’t make our armed forces more effective.

Knowledge about Covid has not been perfect. Indeed, your posts make that point. So, out of an abundance of caution, and considering the military’s mission, the vaccine is required. Loesch has decided some political principle is more important to him than a career in the CG. His refusal to obey such an innocuous order suggests he wasn’t going to have a long career.

i know it suits your narrative to keep asserting he “got run out”, but that insults him by suggesting he didn’t make a choice.

I disagree with saying he is being run out. When you join you know that vaccination is required. The military could add a new requirement tomorrow if they wanted to

I think the military has drawn a bright line here not based on science, but based on towing the line for other vaccine requirements.

And while there are still 400-500 people dying daily from Covid, we’ve learned a ton about it, and the associated therapeutics, the past two years. It’s past time to treat this virus as endemic (does the military require a flu vaccine annually?) unless and until the situation changes for the worst again and a more problematic variant comes along. Then reassess imposing another requirement at that later date.

And this is coming from someone who was vaxed and boosted twice, and who had Covid in July 2022 (<30 days after my 2d boost) with at least moderate symptoms.

Med schools require the vaccine for students. Medical schools.

I don’t see a vast washout of med students from this. Why? Cause you can’t bullshit smart people with insanity chants and American flags.

I agree with you, but I think your first point is a key one. This is a giant federal machine, so we can’t expect discerning rules that treat each individual or moment with fair attention. Picking out this kind of fault is like regretting an out of place spot on a Jackson Pollack painting. There are necessarily going to many ill-serving policies in the Coast Guard, given the structure of its fabric.
