I see the usual barbs from both sides. But you're the only one saying idiotic stuff like 'You’re just an unhappy soul.' and 'as tripswrong sees it…the umpires are racist and won’t call a fair game. Sad way to go through life.'

Why you can't see how dumb you look when you say stuff like that is beyond me.

Disagree because next you’ll say you expect all kids to be able to have golf equipment.
    Life isn’t fair man.
I can’t afford many of the things my neighbor can. I don’t spend my time worrying about it either.

You call it dumb, but it’s really just somebody throwing strikes.
Yes, I continued the analogy and I’m dealing the heat.

The umpire should endeavor to objectively call the pitch, as it reasonably appears to be, based on the agreed upon criteria of what constitutes a ball, and a strike. The umpire isn’t supposed to have any stake in the overall outcome of the game.

No I'm not. Affirmative action is often-cited as an equity-based program. Is that starting people off in the same place, or is that ensuring equality of outcome by trying to have college demographics mirror population demographics?

Yes, that much is clear. Now I'm asking you for real world applications of that. What are people entitled to?

But umpires do indeed have that kind of influence. That’s how life actually works.
You and I like it sometimes and other times we don’t.

    Correct.

But if one team walks 10 batters and the other walks 2, the leftist response is to say "this isn't fair." The fact that there is a disparity itself is indicative of a problem despite the facts that such disparities are normal. They are so normal that artificially removing the disparity would be unjust to the team that walked 2.

Affirmative action is based on the recognition that people start off in different places. It's not perfect, and I'm not going to try to defend it here, but I understand the reasoning behind it.

As for what people are entitled to, in a country as wealthy as ours I think we (especially as kids) are entitled to basic things like food, shelter, healthcare, and education -- the basic building blocks of a happy and productive life.

What kind of sick person thinks that poor kids on a baseball team shouldn't have gloves, bats and balls if they can't afford them?

Do you think every baseball team at any level should be mandated to pay for the gloves, bats, and balls for the kids who can't afford them?

Same guy who doesn’t care if kids get everything they think they want.
Do you expect all kids to have access to golf clubs?
Do you want to pay higher taxes so all children can afford an X Box?

If you can’t afford the equipment, pick up a new sport. Soccer is cheap, and basketball too.
Also, you may need a blood transfusion after all the bleeding heart antics you’ve put on display.

There are government programs for all of the above even in red states.

Let me ask another question. Do you think we should grant citizenship to anybody who wants to work here?

A friends son was drafted in the late second round of the mlb draft last year. His parents are loaded he has played travel ball for probably the last ten years. If his parents hadn’t spent a small fortune on his baseball for ten years. My guess is he would have been drafted but without the advantages of being a 2nd round pick.

Welcome to this wonderful game called "life."

The Dominicans seem to have figured it out with basically no money.

No. That’s your extreme view of “fairness” and “equity”.
The more objective view of those terms imo, is simply to have relatively equal/unbiased access to participate, and to have a relatively equal/unbiased judgment of my participation.

Also which is affirmative action, a program that gives weight based on diversity to tip the scales in college applications and hiring, closer to?

    1. Giving poor kids equipment so they can play.

    2. The umpire calling balls and strikes while weighing their poverty as a factor to favor them when calling the game.

To me a closer policy example to "giving kids equipment" would be access to libraries, books, teachers, and tutors. Not giving them a bump when they're applying to school on the assumption that they grew up under worse circumstances.
