Funny that 18 year olds went from being described by you as underdeveloped to then quickly being labeled brainwashed when pressed. We see where you're going with it. They just don't have the correct brainwashing you are blessed with.

One can only assume that since you didn't take up the point of elderly people with diminished mental capabilities voting that you are fine with them, but not the other group. Sad that you'll take 80 and 90 year olds votes because they vote like you. They should be treated with dignity and respect, not a pawn.

Really disgusting taking advantage of the elderly. But such is the life of yourself. Frightening that such a fragile person needs to ban 18 year olds from voting to bolster their archaic agenda of exclusion for those you hate.

    But keep feining indignation.

My apologies. Clearly it’s a personal issue for you based on your over defensive reaction…you must fall into the 18-19 year old demographic.
That’s how you come across with these dramatic posts.

If you can get killed for your country at 18, you should be able to vote at 18. You should be able to do anything but become President.

I definitely agree that failure is the way we learn, and many affluent kids today haven’t faced it as much as their parents did. The Coddling of the American Mind is a great treatment of this topic. Still, giving some of us the power to determine that other adult citizens haven’t lived a life making them worthy to have a say in their own governance is a serious thing.

That's the key question, isn't it? Can those 18-21 year olds (since the discussion surrounds the concept of raising the voting age to 21) be considered adults? The "Coddling of the American Mind" as you succinctly put would cause me to lean towards "no, not yet" given the voting age used to be 21 and was in truth lowered in large part to line it up with the Draft.

Off topic, I'll say thank you for this discussion. It's very rare on this board to find someone willing to discuss the salient points instead of simply try to trade partisan rhetoric.

The problem is there are also 70 year olds that aren’t truly adults on a maturity/intellectual level, including a certain deranged former President!

Participation is usually petty low for young people anyway, but the ones that get engaged and go through the process should absolutely have the same voice as some 70 year old know nothings who may have “old age”, and mistake that for wisdom.

I see alot of righties who rail against education proclaim that a college degree doesn’t necessarily indicate intellect. That is true at an individual level. The same can be said of old age. Old Age doesn’t impart wisdom or intellect either.
