Republicans flip Democrat-held Louisiana governor seat in first major contest ahead of 2024 elections (msn.com)

Republicans have won the race to determine the next governor of Louisiana, flipping the state from Democrat control in the first major contest ahead of the 2024 elections.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry was declared the clear winner in Saturday's jungle primary, reaching the 50% vote threshold needed to avoid a runoff. The Associated Press called the race.
    Great new for republicans.

Louisianans must be surly. The Democrat only got 31% of the vote.

It is Post-Katrina Louisiana. Yeah, it was stunning when a Democrat won it not once but twice. The only question is whether there would be a runoff to the jungle primary or not. Even if there was, nobody around Louisiana really thought anybody but Landry was the next Governor.

Personally, I didn't find it all that surprising that possibly the most conservative Democratic governor in the US was succeeded by a conservative Republican in a state in which Republicans have been winning statewide elections for years. What would be really newsworthy would be the election of a MAGA sympathetic Republican governor in a state like New York or California.
