Republicans Broke the House—Will Voters Care?

    Its really no different than liberals or centrists who think putting the right people in the CIA, FBI or what have you will make things run better or will overcome the institutional biases and prejudices baked in over decades. Its the same sort of avoidance of real institutional reform in favor of an individualistic notion of how things operate and the machinery of government operates. It is sort of amazing that when Jackson made the spoils system a thing and ushered in pretty naked patronage and corruption in his war on the 19th century version of the deep state, like 50+ years of politics in the US was driven by the demand for basic civil service reform afterwards (which amusingly was led by the GOP). But we are dealing with a set of people with no real interest in history beyond the aesthetic.
