Well in a perfect world attending his son’s wedding would make him reevaluate his stupid political position and in the next week or two he would come out with a love is love type of speech and say from now on he supports all marriage.

Doesn't speak much of him as a man, no matter how easy the "concept" is.

Speaks even worse of his constituents. They are the problem.

His constituents are entitled to their beliefs, no matter how repugnant I think they are. Any man who would trade his child's equality for his self-preservation in politics isn't worth much in my eyes.

I guess I’m not thinking of it in terms of entitlement. It just seems like GOP base voters will not permit their representatives to promote a pluralistic society consistent with the 14th Amendment. They want the government to be an instrument of pain infliction first and foremost, of exclusion. They demand it.

No. He can't win. If he hadn't gone, this thread would be about him doubling down and shunning the event.

Why do you keep gracing this "stupid thread" with your presence? If he hadn't gone, I doubt there would be a thread.

Perhaps winning would be supporting his son personally and politically. The (I am having trouble coming up with a term that wouldn’t seem hostile to the religious base of the Republican Party) polls show that a majority of the American people support gay marriage and it isn’t close. Even the religious conservatives support it.

Imagine supporting legislation that keeps a large portion of people from doing something that makes them happy and harms nobody or nothing. Bizarre

I suspect he block voted with the party. He voted the way his constituents wanted him to vote. He loves his son.

OT: does this logic also apply to Pelosi and Biden’s catholic faith and their choice to support a woman’s right to choose? If so, why are there talks on this forum to deny them Communion?

If he can support his son’s happiness in same sex marriage, maybe it will cause some introspection.

You can also object to religiously, but recognize the civic right, just like abortion. His vote though opposes that right.

Oh no! I once heard of a couple who's daughter got pregnant from a boyfriend they didnt like. They actually had the nerve to be at the hospital and help raise their granddaughter! Hypocrites!

I mean this is exactly what love and tolerance look like. Living ones convictions while still ultimately loving your child who may see differently.

This OP just proves what many of us have said all along.

You dont want tolerance. That was always a myth. You want full on support and adherence. Anything less than 100% compliance to every progressive directive is to be set fire and burned at the public stake.

These parents did what loving parents should do.

Doesnt sound like the relationship is strained or that the son is upset, so why are you?

I don’t see it that way. He voted against all other father’s in America being allowed to show the same love for their gays sons and daughters that he just did…

Bad analogy, unless the grandparents in your situation had just voted for a National bill that barred grandparents from being a part of their grandchildren’s lives.

I can’t believe how many people are missing the problem. It ISNT that he showed love for his son. The problem is that he is one of only 435 people who get a vote on whether or not other parents can show the same love and support for their gay children, and he voted “no” on that. That is what makes him a hypocrite.

Is this your long-winded way of saying you have no issues with blatant hypocrisy? Cool.
